Westward Ho! A Watermelon Homestead

Built By Kids

I made a covered wagon out of a shoe box in the 4th grade and this project by the Dahls of Built By Kids reminded me of it. Theirs is a much tastier version.

Most carved watermelons don't really make use of the whole fruit so kudos to the Dahls for making this pretty and edible. Think of all the presentation possibilities for a summer picnic. If you're doing this project with young kids, you should handle the carving duties, but let them "build" to their hearts content.
