Boston's Benjamin Mansion at 74 Beacon Street has been for sale for years, though now it has been leased to the tune of $40,000 a month. The 8,450 square foot brownstone overlooking the Public Garden has 6 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, and an infinity pool. $40,000 is the highest residential rent ever recorded in Boston by MLS.
In other news, here is possibly the smallest ever home for sale, and LinkedIn buys Pulse. See the headlines after the jump.

That is someone's salary!
$40,000 a month? Guess I'll never be living in Boston!!!! Ostentation at its best. We paid $18,000 for our first house. Wonder if the people who pay this exorbitant rent are any happier?
Well, you can live in Boston. Just not in this mansion.
Based on a 30-day month, that's $133 per day. That really surprised me.
Not that I could afford it or would pay it if I could, but we've all heard about people living in a hotel room (also weird to me, but whatever - ) and $133 is way less that probably most hotel rooms in Boston!
But yeah - three months of renting that place and you'd have paid about what I paid for my house, on an acre of land with a creek running through it, 15 years ago.
I guess you meant $1,333 a day, not $133.
and the 'inside scoop' post did not even give any price ranges; even if one is just curious?
the dining room is hideous. and the shower???? privacy anyone????
And it doesn't even have a back yahd. As they say, money buys stuff. Lots of money buys lots of stuff. No one ever mentioned quality or style.
boston is surprisingly expensive. i could never understand why from the craigslist listings.
Because it's awesome.
