Q: We bought a Calligaris Planet Table (Walnut Top/Black Base) for our square dining room. We need some help finding some reasonably priced/inexpensive chairs to pair with it!

White Enamel Four-P...
I like the chairs in the photo that you already have.
Nice contrast with the table and the curve in the back echoes the round top.
These come in a whole variety of colors, which could be an easy way to add color and get affordable chairs.

west elm has a similar style too:

I'm gonna suggest you go with a modern, all-leather (legs included) dining chair in a color you really love... here's a link to what I'm thinking of in yellow, but know they're available in a miriad of colors:

I like the chairs you already have, too. The slats in the back of them make them visually interesting, I think. I'd say save money on chairs by keeping these and add interest to the room by painting the walls! Paint the inside of the cut-out in the wall a different color, maybe. Or keep it white for contrast depending on how dark of a color you use.
Call me crazy, but what's wrong with the one's you have? They are crisp snd simple, matching the esthetic of the table. Change the color to black to match the base.
I don't like the brown chairs with the black base of the table. Can you paint them? I agree, you def. need some color in the room and a rug. Can you add shelves in that nook for display pieces? Or hang some colorful plates in there (if that's your style)?
For the chairs, I like the West Elm and Ikea choices - I would try Ikea first if you have a store nearby....you might get lucky....
Thanks for all the suggestions so far. The more the better -- keep them coming.
A few reasons are pushing us away from keeping the chairs in the picture. First off, the chairs look better in the photo than they do in person. Additionally, they're a bit too deep for us, we'd really like to get shallower chairs (more on this in a bit), Finally, we considered painting them black like Nionon suggested, we just have no clue how to paint on top of a veneer. If we have to sand the chairs, it would just be too much work. If this as easy as cleaning the chair, buying some primer, and buying paint and painting i'd give it a shot.
We just moved to this apartment and decided the old rectangular dining table we had just didn't fit this space right (it's a 10' 6" x 10'6" dedicated dining space ). I also wanted to mention that both my wife and I are under 5' 8" so we'd ideally love chairs that are not too deep (21" or less"). As you might have deduced we have a toddler -- so we must always take him into consideration when buying furniture.
Here are some chairs we've looked/considered/loved and thought were too expensive..
1)Room and Board Soren Chairs in Black Love em but WHOAH too expensive.
2) CB2 Joe Chair still a bit pricey... what do you guys think woudl this chair match?
3) Ikea Martin Chair/R&B Jake Chairs -- weren't sure how these would hold up and what kind of colors might make sense with the jake chairs.
4) These Black Chairs - we are considering these chairs -- but are concerned about the build quality from some other reviews we've seen on line about wobbling etc.
Ah one more thing: We haven't gotten to adding other stuff to the dining room. But we will. (The wall is slightly curved so that adds a little wrinkle but we'll manage). We will probably avoid a rug though because with our toddler it's just so much easier to clean hardwood floors.

Are classic bentwood Thonet chairs too deep for you? I think their curves and the era they evoke would harmonize well with the curves of your room. Shame about your current chairs; they're pretty.
I think Thonet bentwood chairs would look nice, too.
KrazeeNYC - I haven't tried it, but supposedly you can use Zinsser "Cover Stain" primer without sanding and it sticks like a charm. Check out this blog post where someone painted their Hemnes dresser:

I recently bought chairs similar to these after I purchased a fairly pricey kitchen table and didn't want to blow the rest of the bank on dining chairs. I bought four of them off of Craigslist for 5 bucks a piece. The only difference, is that they had vinyl upholstered seats when I got them. You can definitely paint over veneer if you want to give it a whirl. I did, and they turned out great. It's somewhat time consuming, but having control over the exact color/sheen that you end up with made it worth it, to me at least. I did it the long hard way (sanding, sanding, sanding, after every coat) but I've had many a friend who cleaned them off well, primed them with one or two coats (Kilz is also a great brand of primer to use), and then painted them with great results. If you can't find what you're looking for, this may be something you want to try! Good luck!
Oh, and I forgot to mention, that if you don't want to spend the time painting these chairs, then go with Rustoleum and spray paint them. Sounds ridiculous, but it works. They make a spray primer too. I've used this method for numerous pieces of furniture and they've always turned out great.
I'm considering buying this Calligaris table. Do you like it? How has it held up? Is it sturdy? Thanks in advance!!
