OMG...I would kill for that view.
I think a pale blue with just a hint of green would look like it was extending the view while complimenting the furniture and artwork.
How about the blue color in your artwork, or a toned down chartreuse?
So jealous of your view.
A darker, almost navy, shade of blue would look really good as a contrast with all of the tan. It would also look amazing with the artwork (the white piece above the tv would pop). Plus the blue would look spectacular with your wood floors and furniture.
Agreed! I would also knock down that wall and make the it a wall of windows :)
I was going to say BLUE but I see everyone beat me to it! I agree with the darker blue suggestion. Get some samples and try each. Happy painting!
KELLY GREEN! Go bold and bright!

Just a Little Bit
I was also going to suggest the same blue that's in the artwork. Though honestly, I like things as-is.
A deep, dark plum.
Great View. I would not paint an accent wall. I think that it would compete with the view - and I would want the focus on that.
Please don't paint it--it looks nice and cohesive as is.
a deep jewl toned teal :D be brave! you have such light pieces everywhere else and so much light, you could totally get away with it!
The whole point of an accent wall is to highlight an architectural feature. Painting a plan old wall to highlight it INSTEAD of that amazing view is a crime! Ignore the TV and position your couch to look at the view!
I would find a color that matches your taupe-y tan sofa - then go a shade or two darker.
I'd also paint the entire room - Trust me, it would look much better.
I think that view is the accent wall. I mean, wowwowwow. Gorgeous.
A bright, acidy-green apple or peacock blue - both colors look to have a similar shade in the framed poster. Either would lend a deep hue while also feeling bright because of the intense saturation.
i like the teal suggestion. also to make your place more unique, i'd also add some sort of large floor sculpture by the column behind or next to the sofa if there's room. your place looks great as is but just a tad generic & art of some sort would make for a nice remedy.
No accent wall.
I agree. No accent wall. I love everything about your room, especially the coffee table and the view.
Thanks so much for the input everyone, this is the first time I have posted with aptthpy. Would love to move the sofa to face the view, but the cable line runs on the other side of the apt and the reality is that I need to watch tv sometimes (no den or dining room here). And the reason I thought of doing an accent wall is because I wanted to try to frame the artwork (which is white) and also to try to make a narrow room look wider. But I am an amateur (at most), which is why I posted here!!!!
grasscloth , very midcentury modern! Love the view!
Ugh, accent wall color. 1995. Enough said.
Paint that wall any color you want! Your furniture is pretty neutral and the accent wall (plus some other accents like throw pillows) will coordinate nicely. Do whatever you want.
I often DREAM of living in a place just like this. That view is awesome and I am so jealous.
I would get a longer cable, put the tv on that round pier, on some discrete and light piece of furniture, or even wallmounted. And give the sofa a u-turn, facing the big window and the tv.
As for the wall....rather some structure and indirect lighteffects than color.
The room looks great as-is. Forget the extra work, you have a room with a view!!
Thx. I always say the only good thing about not living in Manhattan is that it's the only way you can get a good view of it! ;-)
amethyst: it'll compliment the browns and show all the artwork colors to perfection.

Accent walls are vulgar. Paint the whole room.
because your sofa has a warm tone, I would say apple green-ish color. mossy green and dark brown TV stand is a "no" to me. since the question is what color is the accent I present you with color. but not necessarily I would do that. if this is my place, I would just probably color all the walls with warm biege and leave the baseboard, frames and column white. that would be enough to bring out the white color of your artworks from the wall.
gray w/ a hint of blue or purple?
I'm interested in that artwork on the wall next to the door/window. Who did that ?
I'm sorry I'm not helpfull in answering your question though
Hello,
I would paint the furniture underneath the tv white
The wall isn't the problem. I think the colour it is now is rather nice. The TV and cabinet are the problem. The rest of your furniture is lovely and that cabinet is letting it down. I would suggest getting a TV cabinet that hides the TV or - if that would take up too much wall space - get something white and minimalist and don't put your TV in the center leaving a large area for more beautiful glass or white or natural decorative elements, even smaller artworks leaning against the wall. Something like this could work:

Good luck!
ok, found out the artwork and now I feel ashamed *blush* lol
pink
No worries, Fairy. It's a poster I picked up many years ago matted on a thick cardboard.
@spiro--you recommend getting rid of that beautiful media center for something that costs 5 to 6x less & looks atrocious? i dunno know.
No accent colour. It would be too busy and detract from the room's nice clean, cosy-modern look. Oh—do you want a room-mate? ;o)
I agree an accent wall color is unnecessary and would even detract. I do think the wall with the TV and media center creates a very dark area in an otherwise bright room, and I would change that.
Behr Starless Night UL230-1
the concept of an 'accent wall' needs to die a painful death already.
Lovely view!
I suggest a color that matches the metal on your door and window frames. It looks like a medium gray to me. The darker color would make the wall appear farther away too. The TV would not stand out so much, and the white artwork would pop on a darker colored wall.
Hope you have fun with it!
I agree with Spiro its the TV cabinet that is not working in this beautiful space its too heavy and the wrong look. If you cannot get something to hide the TV then how about a low white cabinet and set TV to one side is a great suggestion have the art placed above the open space and TV on other side.
I don't think a accent wall would work here.
I would love to paint the entire room "Down Pipe" you have enough natural light to go dark and dramatic- here is a picture of the color

Agree, no accent wall. You have two awesome walls of view -- don't distract. I too would figure out a way to turn the sofa around to face the view. It seems sacrilegious to face the TV with a view like that.
All is well as is.
Newburyport Blue, or a similar sapphire blue
No accent wall. All walls painted the same color. I think gray would look lovely.
I also agree with the suggestion to change the look of that media center.
While I already posted that I think this room has no use for an accent wall, I notice there is a lot of accent wall hate on here. I understand that it's a backlash because it is a trend and people are doing these accent walls willy nilly these days. However, there are certain rooms where it really does work. I think there should be a good reason for drawing the eye to that particular wall. If you can't articulate the reason, probably best not to do an accent wall.
Tabernacle Taupe
I think that painting the wall a rusty red/brown similar to the colour in your painting will steer the eye more towards the view than to that wall. It will be a colour that your tv unit will blend in to and force the wall of windows to be the feature rather than the wall with the tv. Otherwise, I think any other colour will just be competing with that amazing view. But really as of now, the room looks just fine.
I have to agree with the naysayers; no accent wall. I think it's great as is, but my taste runs toward neutral on neutral. Nothing should compete with the view.
"I'm interested in that artwork on the wall next to the door/window. Who did that ?"
It's a poster of a Picasso - "Girl Before a Mirror"
Your place is great! I personally like neutrals, but in that place, with so much light coming in ,you could go with a strong accent colour. I must say, the place looks beautiful as it is, but if you want to make it more daring, my suggestion is that you should pick a colour that works with the frames at your windows.
I think that "dreamcather" from Benjamin Moore would be perfect.
The same blue that Picasso used in the male "circle" in his painting. Simple.
i totally agree with cheekyliving. I think having a darker wall i.e. dark eggplant purple will frame your artwork which has a white border and the view from outside. At the moment with the white, the view and the artwork is a bit lost I think. the other wall which is currently brown can be painted white.
Why is it that, even with such a view (!!), the whole LR is centered around a TV screen? Not just here, but 90% of LRs… Do people never have friends over and TALK? The seating is not set up for that, nor for reading. Just commenting…
I actually like the current color. But I would consider moving the TV to the corner to the L of the view, and moving the couch 90º to face the view and possible visitor in the white chair. Hard to tell without a floor plan, but the TV is too much the focus of the room, rather than the people living there!
Also, it is perfectly possible to watch TV from a sofa not facing it directly - stretched out, feet up!
Great view! But I agree with others & think you should adjust your seating arrangement to take more of it in. Don't touch that media center! I can't believe somewhat suggested painting it white! A white cabinet will make your place look too matchy-matchy & like a Bo-concept showroom with all the pieces looking alike & coming from the same place. Would love to see your place painted entirely blue & agree it should not be confined to an accent wall. Whatever color your choose make sure it pairs well with your couch and media cabinet. A large plant (perhaps a pencil cactus?) would look great & texture from pillows & a throw.
I agree with others who've said you should avoid painting an accent wall and instead rearrange furniture so that it highlights the gorgeous view. You don't have any plants in the room, which could add a lot of feeling for very little money. You could try hanging some upside-down from mod planters attached to the ceiling to create some colorful visual interest and offset the neutral industrial feel.
I love all the pieces you currently have and think they all work very nicely together. PLEASE do not paint that beautiful console....that would be total furniture crime. The shadow in that first picture is just making the left side of the room look heavier, not the furniture. Although painting an accent wall would just make it appear even heavier, especially if it were a darker color. Here is what I'd do if it were my place....I'd pick either a medium tone blue (kinda a navy, but with lots of grey in it) or a pale watery blue and I'd paint the whole room, except that column. Then I'd just flip the furniture arrangement to the exact opposite of what it is now, just like a mirror image with the couch on the darker wall and the TV in front of the windows. I really don't think the TV will take up much of that view or even distract from it, but you could always try it in the corner in front of the pillar if it bothered you. (And just get an adaptor and longer TV cable and either run it around the perimeter of your room or under the rug). I just think you would then have the best of both worlds, enjoying your view WHILE watching TV. Another option furniture wise would be to just move your couch a quarter turn to face the patio door and then put your TV on that little wall where the poster currently is. You may need a smaller TV stand to do this though. Hope this helps a little and good luck! LOVE your place so much.
NO ACCENT WALL! that's so HGTV like 8 years ago...
Do white like the rest of the place and get some more art!
Can't tell you all how much I appreciate (and have learned from) your input. Will try some new things with the furniture arrangement and will post after pics later after paint job is done.
^^ blue
yes, please post pics of the new space!!
I love this space! I love your view, love the art, love your furniture, and love the TV console too. I think the accent wall would look great with a deep colour - whether you choose green, blue, eggplant... make it a nice saturated one! Hope you post pics when you're done!
no accent walls - paint the whole room, or nothing at all. accent walls are a blight.
