Q: So I bought this couch at ABC over the weekend and have a few weeks before it’s delivered (larger photo below). I plan on using this time to find a couple of chairs to go with it, although with its pinkish hue I’m having a hard time deciding what to look for. I have navy blue in my mind for some reason, although I’m not sure it will work. Any suggestions for colors/styles of chairs to complement the couch? Resources would be helpful too, I’ve been looking around but just haven’t been able to find anything so far.

It would be helpful to know what the wall color is for the room in which it will be placed. Without knowing that I second your idea for navy blue although I would opt for a pattern or print, maybe even some type of crewel work fabric? Also, some patterned print bolster pillows on either end of the couch would soften its hard lines but still work with the style.
Good luck!

A couple of chocolate or beige coloured side chairs would be nice. They are both pretty neutral colours so it would be easy to add cushions, throws, artwork to tie things together.
Yeah, it's hard to recommend something without knowing more about the room it's going in. What color is the room, what color/material is your other furniture (tables) in that room, what color are the window treatments, etc? Also hard to recommend sources without knowing how much you want to spend (was the sofa the big splurge and now you need to save, or is that indicative of your budget overall?)
That said, I fall in the camp of something lighter - taupe-ish gold, light to medium brown. Especially if you want chairs that are the same style as the sofa. Perhaps some skirted slipper chairs. If you want to go with a bold, dark color like black or navy I'd do a big, bold print on something wild like great big wingback chairs with curvy legs - mix up the styles a bit.
Cultivate is right. Knowing the wall color will help inform your decision. But if the walls are neutral, with such a bold color choice in your sofa, going on the other side of the spectrum to balance things out is a good thing. But I think navy blue is too big of a tonal difference. Typically if you are trying to pull together a room if you aren't using similar colors in your upholstered pieces you usually pick similar tones. If you switch your chairs with a lighter shade of blue and repeating the same blue as throw pillows on your sofa it will help pull all the pieces together.
Any sorts of colour in grey scheme always go with such a colour of that couch. Otherwise, cream or ivory colour would be safe though.
Oh and as erinmotely recommended above, chocolate (or brown colours) makes a great match with pinky colour!
This is great sofa and a classic choice that will go with lots of styles so decide what you like!
Country - chocolate worn leather, small floral
Retro - turquoise, pastel blue, minty green
Soft pretty - butter yellow, evergreen, floral
Bold - blood red OR evergreen
Classic- black and white or navy
Go large bold florals if you want a younger feel, and darker colours if you want to introduce some masculinity and weight.
My pick - Black, green and white- lush! Inspiration here http://www.decorpad.com/photos/2008/11/25/b244989ac19d.jpg

If you don't have any other items to work around (rug, art) then I'd go with either a print, dark chocolate brown, or Belgian linen fabric for the chairs. I wouldn't use navy unless you have a printed fabric that you can use to tie everything together (and the print contains both pink and navy even if in relatively small doses). Paint color I wouldn't worry about because that's easiest to do last and very cheap if you're DIY. I have a living room rug, where that pink color predominates, and to balance it I found that chocolate brown and aqua were the perfect solutions (chocolate brown balanced the pink and the aqua was my favorite color in the rug). It sounds like a wonky color scheme but it's working very well with that rug! I inherited the rug, and love it, but it's been quite a challenge to make it work. One key element for me in making it successful is not bringing anymore pink in the room unless it's just an accent (art, pillow, candlesticks, table linens in the dining room, orchid, fresh cut flowers).
For chair styles there's no perfect formula, it's about finding what you like and pairing (matching things like seat height or arm shape - or - contrasting arm shape), I took a similar sofa and paired it with two chairs very close to Room & Board's Leonardo (though I now wish I'd seen William-Sonoma Home's Gibson zebra first).
I agree that we'd need to know the wall color, but irrespective of that, the navy blue IMO will make the color scheme look a bit too patriotic.
In the picture the sofa looks quite peachy, I would go with greay, maybe with a pattern that has that colour in it too.
First let me just say taht I am jealous that you have room for a sofa. So here are a few options. I don't know your price range.
Second I would go with something natural like...
http://www.westelm.com/products/f922/?pkey=cchairs-ottomans
or
http://www.westelm.com/products/g067/?pkey=cchairs-ottomans
these are low like the sofa and Im sure cheap to re upholster.
As far as color is concerned, I would go neutral as to not take away fromt he sofa. the sofa could, if you wanted it to, now be the center of attention in this room. Use accent pillows to tie it all together.
PS...
Also the chairs depend on waht your needs are.
Are these chairs going to be used a lot?
Do you expect to lounge around on a sunday in these?
Are they just for light sitting and to balance out the room?
Looks like the sofa has gold undertones, so I would play that element up around the room--very luxurious. I would also ground the salmon/gold with some dark brown (the same color as the legs) side tables or a substantial coffee table. Also, a chocolate brown throw would be a nice against the sofa.
I love the sofa, btw--who is the manufacturer?
Wall and Window covering color please? and do you want bold and in your face or cool calm and serene? If you want bold definitely go red. For Kool Kat calm I would do gray.
I think your idea of going with navy sounds beautiful and very chic. People always seem to think that colors like pink/blush are limiting, but there are SO MANY colors you can do with them, and the same goes for navy, and let's face it, just about everyone looks good on a blush-colored sofa. If you're going to do navy chairs, though, I wouldn't suggest doing them in velvet or chenille, since they will collect lint; I'd go with a woven cotton or linen (but bear in mind that linen will fade much faster and take on a more worn look much faster than cotton will). A fabric with a print will disguise the effects of wear and tear.
And I covet your sofa, BTW.
Brown leather. Without hesitation.
i would go with a pale pale blue, very icy, with gray tones. if you do decide to go with navy, it would be worth it to take the cushions (or even the chair) to the upholsterer and use the coral/pink color of your sofa to welt the chair. welts are a great way to tie different colors of the room together. then bring in some pattern using (at least) both colors by way of pattern pillows.
print would be the best option. i'm a little bit over really large scale prints. instead i would find a ditsy pattern with the pink of the sofa and some other colors in the room.
check out chairloom.com, they might have some good ideas for you.
Whites, blues and yellows.
If this were a blazer - What color blouse would you wear with it?
If this were a blazer, she'd be selling Mary Kay, showing real estate, or renting cars, so the blouse would be company-issued. :)
That sofa is delicious. There are so many directions you could go, but I would LOVE that in a room with exposed brick, because it almost seems like it's already somewhat in that direction. I would put shades of terra cotta and brown and beige with it, even white, in general.
Congratulations on a lovely choice.
Brown or dark gray. No pastels.
Beautiful sofa, envy here!
You could go in so many directions this is such a lovely neutral color to work with.
Tans
Browns
Dark Taupes
Greys
Teal
ice blues
greens
Golds
Starting with your floors what color are they? What color paint? You could build so many palettes.
This sofa is rather elegant so I do think brown leather wing back style chair would be a nice balance and both will allow you to build a palette.
I do not see cutesy patterns or beachy rattan style furniture.

I strongly suggest that you find a fabric that you like that includes the color of the sofa, and use that as a cue for selecting other colors. (For instance, I think I have in my pile of fabric a Japanese quilting fabric with peonies this color, navy blue designs, white and shades of green.)
Use the fabric for some simple-to-make sofa pillow covers, and select your other colors based on the print.
(A nice piece of artwork could do the job, instead.)
what about this direction, neutral and love these chairs

BTW- I just painted a wall in my kitchen BM Clinton Brown and its a beautiful color. If you don't have a paint color yet take a look at this color then you could build something beautiful- Your sofa sofa then with cream wool or linen fabric wing chairs would be chic, gold mirror, glass and bronze tables, wood tables, big bold peachy, reds, pinks, blues or greens in a area rug and one-two pieces of the dark midnight-teal blue in a lamp shade and in a glass vessel or object. if you don't want bold area rug then something simple like siesel and go with a bold print on a ottoman and pillows.
can't wait to see what you do!
Thanks for all of these amazing suggestions! I went from having one idea I wasn't sure about, to having tons of ideas I can't decide between. Thank you!
To answer some of the questions, the walls are presently painted white, although it's what I would call "landlord white," a bit more of a neutral off-white. I'm open to painting them, although the ceilings are quite high so it would be a pretty serious undertaking; if I can get away with leaving them as is I would be happy. I haven't purchased any other furniture yet, so I'm not limited in that area. I will certainly be considering the suggestions made above when I go looking for chairs to go with the couch. They will indeed be ones that I'll use a lot, for lounging and such, which I realize I'll have to take into comsideration before I buy anything.
The couch was purchased at ABC, manufactured by McCreary Modern. It comes in a few different colors (all lovely), is 87 inches long and is very comfortable. I was so happy to find something that I liked the look of AND that was comfy - no easy feat!
Thank you again - I have really enjoyed reading all of your ideas!
Please also consider the material itself, not just the color.
Since this seems a microfiber, velvet or mohair, I'd go for a different type of fabric.
But still stand by a (warm) brown leather.
I think any sofa/chair pairing should be an exercise in "compare and contrast:" they should have something in common (shape or seat height, leg style or shared wood color) and something different (sheen, color, etc.).
Lots of votes for dark brown chairs but I think that will make your sofa look too peach. I love LoriSF's suggestions-warm colors with some blue accents is much better than grey. (Grey and pink reminds of me of the '80s in a bad way. Those were my prom colors.) Also Patrick's point about the material is excellent.
yes! navy or chocolate with ivory as an accent. consider kilim pillows, too.
I need to stop looking at that couch, because my own couch is very nice, and there's no real need for me to be jealous.
Lots of Room and Board sofas are made by McCreary Modern too. We just ordered the Maddox sofa (super comfy) in Teton fabri/Ink color. Taking delivery in a week and can't wait!
I love the deep rich red color in my Crate and Barrel sofa - and the directors chair is a great compliment across from it:

great suggestion chocolatelab- the whole image is perfect, rug and all. Also I love LoriSF flicker of colours that go well together- what a great visual. I really hope that we get to see what you pick :) have fun
I love the blazer suggestion. I would wear a cream colored silk blouse with chocolate cords.
Gold of course for jewelry, add rich brown leather accessories and a little something extra to bring in a cool color - possibly grey in a patterned scarf or bag.
I think chairs with a green and white print would look amazing. Grey or red would also work.
I have a couch that color and went with an Imari porcelain palette: deep lacquer red-orange, navy blue, and a strong green between grass and olive. A pattern like Chiang Mai Dragon is always what I've envisioned recovering my chairs in.

Here is a palette with your sofa color to give you an idea of which browns, golds, creams and grays work. I love these panels and have some from the same maker in batik beige.
But I agree with the suggestions you go with brown, cream and gold predominantly. You could get a gorgeous kilim and work the navy into it.
Another way to introduce a little bit of pattern is with throw pillows. I love these with Donghia fabric.

Have a look around their store. I love their pillows and have the Quatrefoil pillow in emerald.
Here is a nice kilim from my favorite Ebay rug seller.
