Hammocks are a great way to sleep. I've always fantasized about ditching my mattress and hanging one up at home. That said, I never pictured one like this. Would it freak you out? I'm curious to hear your thoughts!
I spotted this crazy set up at OhGizmo where they suggest playfully you wouldn't have to worry about crumbs in your bed ever again. Although this might be true, it seems like it might create a few logistical problems. Would you walk across it and lay down? Kneel and roll down onto it?
Either way, it's a curious idea, even if you're not into it for your main sleeping quarters, but a play room or extra lofted space in your house might be just the place. A library nook with some snuggly blankets and pillows? That I am totally behind!
What about you? Could you have a giant hammock bed or would the whole thing leave you feeling unsettled? Share your thoughts below!

White Enamel Flatwa...
I love hammocks, a lot, I have more than one set up in our apartment right now, but I cannot stand "mesh" or rope hammocks. They are so uncomfortable. So if you could make this out if fabric I'd be all over it.
I love hammocks, but one of the main draws is the swaying motion, which you wouldn't get with a setup like this. A library nook, though... that sounds fantastic!
I had the joy of resting on a hammock like this that was stretched between the two pontoons of a small charter boat in Hawaii. It was so wonderful. I can absolutely see the value of having this sweet comfort in an unused space.
I agree with QChan, the rope ones are often tough because where the junctions of where the rope overlaps/intertwines is bumpy, but I have been on lovely ones.
This is tempting, but my fear of heights will keep this from becoming a fixture in my place ;)
Sounds great and all but what if you sleep nekid?

Then you x's on your bum. :)
The one shown above reminded me of my ex-husband. When I forwarded the post to him, he pointed me to this site: http://www.simonedrucker.com/work/sculpture-installation/hammock-lounge
which shows the hammock another friend of his created. There's a huge element of installation art to it.
That's cool, but NOT A HAMMOCK. That's a net that you sleep on. Hammock, as defined by the book of knowledge (wikipedia) - "A hammock is a sling made of fabric, rope, or netting, suspended between two points." This, my friends, is a sleeping net.
I would definitely want one, but not to use as a bed. Totally cool, though!
rphoto, I totally agree. When I think of a hammock I think of something that moves back and forth. This is a pretty taut net and isn't much different from a bed in terms of mobility.
Would you walk across it and lay down? Kneel and roll down onto it?
or take a flying leap? ;-)
This looks completely awesome! I would LOVE something like this - but more as a reading nook/fun space to hang out. I can promise my husband wouldn't be okay with it for sleeping.
This is totally cool! It looks more like a trampoline to me. My kids would LOVE something like this, but I would be scared that they would use it like a trampoline! Pretty neat idea, though.
Cool as a place to hang out (so to speak) if one has the room in their house (which actually defeats the purpose of living in smaller homes). But I definitely wouldn't want it as an actual bed- forget "pillow face" in the morning! Imaging trying to explain to your boss why you have X marks all over your face & body! And, I'm sorry, but hammocks have zero back support. I've fallen asleep in them by mistake and woke up with the worst back pain. Something tells me that a hammock like this would be a cool thing to have for a while, but the novelty would wear off quickly (much more quickly than the X imprints on one's skin!).
