Chances are if you're reading this blog, you're a person who's working with champagne decorating tastes on a beer budget. You've had to build your dream space around Ikea's hack-able seasonal offerings and your landlord's twisted rules. But, as Tim Gunn says, you somehow manage to "make it work." You've got a lot to be proud of, MacGyver-of-the-Media-Room, and we want to hear about it!
Designing a made-to-your-tastes space inside four rented walls is hard enough for anyone.
But when you're a techie, you also have to deal with trying to hide wires, too. That's exactly what we dealt with in our most-proud moment, when we wired our rented apartment with hidden surround sound wires.
We spent a long afternoon finding all the nooks and crannies—under door jams and in the thin seam where carpet meets hardwood—where wires could run. And where there wasn't any clever hiding spots (like around doorways), we used perfectly-cut cord covers that matched the wall paint.
The hilarious thing about spending so long to hide the cords is that we're so proud of the outcome, we make sure to point out our handy work to our guests.
