Here's a different way to think about a city's cost of living: What's $100 worth? The economists at the Tax Foundation used data from Bureau of Economic Analysis to determine just how far a Benjamin goes across the country.

At the state level, $100 goes the furthest in Mississippi and Arkansas, purchasing about $115 of stuff. The highest cost of living goes to Washington DC, where $100 is valued at $84.96.

A second interactive map shows the difference at the county level, showing the difference between cities and rural areas.
