Those with the most minimal desktops need nothing but a laptop computer and miles of shiny, clean table top to complete their "workspace." But then there's the rest of us. Maybe we're note-takers. Maybe we're sentimentalists. Maybe we're hoarders. But our desk tops are covered with plenty of non-tech gear.

Sometimes all this decor porn can make our lived-in home offices feel cluttered. But we refuse to feel bad for keeping books, notebooks and happy little travel trinkets at home next to our keyboard.
So we want to know: What non-tech gear are staples on your desk?
For me, it's magazines. I've got more active subscriptions than pairs of shoes, and I love to keep a short stack on my desktop whenever I need a quick break from work or some inspiration to brainstorm ideas.
What about you, readers? Do you keep a drafting table for sketching? Prefer your paper calendars over iCal? Still have an updated Rolodex of business contacts? Tell us in the comments!

Z2 iPod Dock and Wi...
i have a set of kidrobot futurama characters in front of me right now along with the endless clutter. my desk is always a mess. Add in being sick right now so i have a couple bags of cough drops, pills, kleenex.
Electric kettle (that doesn't count as tech, does it?), teapot, mug, lego stormtrooper, chap stick, plant, mail sorter, hedgehog paperclip holder.
I keep a mini Buddha on my desk. That's about it; I'm kinda anal.
I have a mini globe on my desk
I've got a stack of typography samples that I print and collect to reference. On the more less-used front I also have a collection of rulers piled to one side.
Looking around, I actually have a lot of non-tech stuff on my desk. The musts are a tiny dino and a mug that my daughter painted. Other items include a funny picture of my grandmother with a bubble saying "Sit up straight," a day calendar I got for free, a bear from my best friend, and a unicorn notebook.
purple highlighter, Vornado Zippi desk fan (it's tech, but not directly work-related, right?), Schaedler Precision Rule (does decimal inches, agates and picas), family pix, a flowerpot full of pipe cleaner and button flowers my son made for me in preschool. Usually a teapot and cup of tea, though not at the moment.
Two framed photos and a large crystal vase of seashells I picked up on vacation in South Africa.
Non-tech gear? My collection of Moleskine (and later this month Field Notes) notebooks, my various pens (Cross, CRKT, Mont Blanc, SureFire), my small collection of challenge coins, and some other stuff…
One of my New Year's resolutions was to try and keep the clutter on my desk to a minimum. In the past, there were times when finding space to put down a mug was an issue.
Right now on my desk there are: phone, desk lamp, page a day calendar (that was a Christmas present), glass full of pens and pencils, and a little dish of odd rocks I've collected over the years--from the backyard of the house I lived in when I was ten, a bit of the old Berlin Wall, a pebble my then two year old niece gave to me one day.
There's a paper calendar and an old hard bound dictionary, but they are in the bookcase right beside the desk. And all the usual office supplies are in the desk drawers--I love a desk with good drawer space.
I have a framed photo I shot in Paris of St. Denis (the one holding his own head in his hands) featured on the left portal of Notre Dame.
I have a Victorinox Ranger, notepad, spare change, sewing machine and chopsticks on my desk.
I keep a baseball glove with a baseball nestled in it. Whenever I need to brainstorm or think about something for an extended period of time, I find it relaxing to sit back in my chair, and throw the baseball in the air over and over again.
It's kind of a strange habit though considering I'm terrible at baseball and don't even like watching the sport :P
A frame with a photo of my girlfriend.. that's it besides the lamp.
A well-thumbed Strunk & White, colored pencils, and my active notebooks/sketchpads. And an owl 'piggy' bank, because it's been on desks of mine for years.
No real non-tec staples at home, but on my desk at work I have a red swingline, a tape dispenser that looks like a cassette tape, a mini fan, coffee mug, and post its.
Hahaha oh goodness.... I have a pink stapler, tape dispenser, and paper clip holder that holds only plastic-coated multi-colored paperclips, a glass dish with candy and pink binder clips, 2 bottles of lotion, one bottle of saline, hand sanitizer, a plant, a ball of yarn and some knitting needles, nail clippers, an Orbit gum container full of pens no one else touches, and Star Wars waterproof bandaids. Other must-haves? White-out tape, a collection of random hair accessories, and a ton of sticky notes. Amazingly... there's still room on my desk.
Homer Simpson bobblehead & a pic of me & the hubby.
