Here's a pretty typical toddler's room. The dark window coverings and knotty wood paneling make it a bit dark and dreary. Jump below and see the amazing transformation this room underwent.

Wowza! Yes, this is the same room and the paneling is still there but it's now concealed under a nice coat of creamy white paint. The dark drapery has been replaced with white breezy curtains. There are a lot more changes in the room (for example, a "new" bed frame) but the biggest impact came from the freshly painted white walls and removing heavy dark drapery - two very inexpensive fixes that can change the look and feel of a room instantly.

does anyone know the paint colors? the blue and white. I LOVE them.
Wow. At first glance I thought the original pics were of a basement room. Great transformation!
Absolutely amazing transformation! Doesn't even look like the same room. My only problem is the two lamps by the bedside--in my toddler's room, they would be knocked down fairly soon, and if they're ceramic, that could be dangerous. Otherwise, it's great. It's incredible what a little paint can do.
Wow. Just, wow.
Talk about a huge style leap, incredible! I'm guessing magic mushrooms were somehow involved, because this couldn't have come about by chance :P
Oh my gosh this is amazing!! I would never have guessed these were photos of the same room.
Agree that paint made a HUGE change. But also agree that many, MANY other changes lead to the great success of this happy-ever-After.
LOVE this! Does anyone know about the "choo-Choo" print?
That is one of the most amazing transformations I have ever seen. In ANY remodel.
Looks like they covered up that random door with that aqua panel. Makes the room flow quite a bit better.

The homeowner answered some questions in the comments on the Young House Love post. I believe she said the Choo-Choo print was a blown-up illustration from a vintage children's book, and she received the print as a gift?
Love the room! An amazing change: new paint, and window coverings, and um... new furniture, accessories, lighting, linens, floor coverings.. Wait, why is this a post about paint? Without the rest of the redesign, this would still have been the same boring/tacky toddler room, just less dark.
Bravo!!! Well done :)
That is a great makeover! Obviously more went into it than a lick of paint, but I love that it was all done on a small budget. What a difference!
SOOO cute. But agree - definitely, DEFINITELY more than a little paint :-)
...and a great example of having window treatments the same color value as the walls... a GREAT visual expander in a small space...
wow it looks sooo much better.
Love the Choo Choo print. My two year old can recite the entire thing from memory...granted almost three but still! He'd love that.
OH MY!
definitely confirms that i want to paint my basement!!!
I love painted paneling. Very cute room. And I clicked into your wedding...every wedding should be so simple and charming. $50,000 weddings make me cringe. Plus, you can walk out to your beautiful yard and relive the memories. Lovely.
WOW what a transformation! The rooms look like two different styles....then when I went to the original blog entry, I saw that you said a lot of the furniture in the "before" room was gifted from your mother. So it must be more of your style in the "after" room that we all love! Great job!
Nice job!
Where is the comforter from...does anyone know? Such a cute room.
the duvet cover/pillowcase is from ikea:

Great new look! Sure, paint was a big help but some serious cleaning/de-cluttering must have taken place as well. Love it!
As always, there is no greater pet peeve of mine than when before and after photos are taken from completely different angles making it impossible to envision the transformation. Stand in the same spot, people!
LOVE it!
Wendy if you look closely the 2nd before photo is about 4ft to the left of the after photo. Not THAT much different.
Great room!

It takes amazing planning (and foresight) to predict where the photos will "be" after a renovation when you are shooting the Befores, as the focal points (and available vantage points) change so dramatically...
And mrsdroll is right... these examples really aren't all that tricky to figure out.
Really, really, really great.
