A recent conversation about whether a particular design idea would look "too bohemian for a house in the suburbs" left me wondering how and if location should influence the way we decorate. Does a country look work in the city too? And will the same look in Stockholm seem forced and sterile in DC? What's your take?
My initial conversation on the matter revolved around whether a Parisian flea market inspired outdoor space would look...well, trashy in suburban DC. Would people get it? Should it matter?
The topic also taps into the issue of decorating by theme. Will coastal hues, driftwood, and slouchy furniture look too theme-y in a Logan Circle apartment? Does good design translate in any location?
While I'm inclined to advise people to decorate with what they love regardless of where they live, I'm willing to bet you Apartment Therapists have a few more things to say on the subject. Let's hear it!
