When we replaced our mismatched, beater wine glasses with a nicer set, we didn't dare hang them over the sink (prime accident zone for glasses, we found). But left with the empty rack, we sought a way to keep such conveniently located storage in use.
It turns out dish towels loop very conveniently from the rack sideways, and it's great for separating and drying the different washing-up rags. This way, too, we can keep the freshest, driest towel beneath the sink for our hands, and leave freshly rinsed towels out to dry above.

We didn't want to remove the rack entirely because we rent and it's mounted really firmly in there, but it seemed too convenient to go unused at all. We're curious though, if anyone would do something different with the empty rack. Ideas?

grammar police... TOO convenient!
Sorry for stating the obvious, but this looks like a prime spot for hanging plastic monkeys.
What did you do with your old glasses? Wouldn't they be handy for quick drinks of water?
i've been looking for a place to hang my little plastic monkeys! thanks
I might use some S hooks along the front to hook containers for flowers or utensils. Ikeahack with Grundtal! I'd still use the rest of the rack for your fine use as a towel holder.
Or, depending on space considerations, you might be able to slide a thin cutting board up there for quick access.
Oh I do like that towel idea.
What about using that space to hang herbs or flowers for drying?
A place to hang utensils?
This is really great for those trying to clean only with cloth and not paper towels but need space for drying/airing out.
This is a little "hints from heloise" for my taste. It seems like it would be a pain to get those dish cloths in and out of there.
Smart idea!
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
wig3000 -- I love that suggestion! I think I might do a row of plants/herbs (a la Miss Pea), but potted with Asker (that spot gets drenched with great light for a few hours at midday).
Original A -- I had not heard of Hints from Heloise until now. Ha! She's kind of groovy.

You could hang cooked bacon to let the fat drip off. I'm reaching here.
How about s-hooks and then coffee mugs? Quick, easy access ... Because they are much shorter, there is not as much of a risk for accidents ...
