Q: We will be shortly be moving into our new home in North London. The master bedroom is lower-ground, north-facing, and needs updating. We already intend to replace the laminate flooring with carpet, get rid of the green trim, paint/change the built-in wardrobe doors, and put plantation shutters on the windows — phew! But we are stumped on the following:
Firstly, what colour should we paint the bedroom? At the moment it is brilliant white, and it feels cold and stark. We are tempted to paint it a warm, dark colour to create a grown-up, snug, cocooned feeling, but on the other hand we are wondering if we should keep to the lighter spectrum. Any thoughts on light versus dark, plus specific ideas for paint colours, would be greatly appreciated.
Secondly, what to do with the crazy hodge-podge of shelving and gaps behind the bed? This is the only place we can have the bed due to the location of the bedroom door and the built-in wardrobes. We could just board up the whole wall for a clean finish, but this is London, where space is a premium! Is there anything clever we could do here?
Thanks in advance!
