Q: My family and I moved into our home just over a year ago and are slowly but surely making improvements and furnishing. I have been at a loss, and am completely burnt on trying to find something for this blank wall in our living area just off of the kitchen, which is where we spend most of our time.
I have already incorporated mirrors in the room, and there are white built-ins across from the sofa. So I think that shelving would be too much. I really want to bring in more color and at this point I am leaning towards a Parvez Taj print on aluminum... but we have a small budget. All ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

White Enamel Flatwa...
I think your living room looks really lovely and I'm so jealous of the built-in bookcases! A print would look great, or a collection of several prints. You might also consider doing a wall of family photos, since that's an easy, affordable way to add interest, and they can be changed out as you have more taken.
We have had this question before back in July, AT.
To fill a similarly large space on a small budget, I bought a large canvas and paint in some bright colors that play off of some of the existing shades in my apartment, and painted a really simple linear piece.
really it's just thick lines - think something like this: http://fineartamerica.com/featured/striped-slade-roberts.html.
I didn't frame it, just got a wrapped canvas and painted the edge of the canvas, but you could go either way.
It was really easy, and I definitely am not particularly artistic - and it could perhaps just serve as a filler until you find or can save for a piece that you really love.
I love your living room! Especially the couch and built ins....What about a really great wallpaper. I'm always drooling over the ones at allmodern.com, also love oh joy's gold floral.
A wall of drapes? Chose a color from those fabulous sofa pillows. Or, grey to match the couch. You can do a pull back in the corner to reveal the window.
I've seen this post before...
I'm pretty sure I saw this post already. It inspired our living room painting and I got tips on the other post:

A wall gallery would be really nice. There are tons of inspiration pictures for the idea on pinterest and try younghouselove.com here is an example with large frames: http://pinterest.com/pin/180293513/
I love the prints of national geographic photos that you can buy online. They have a ton of size options and some of their best and most iconic photos are available. I would pick 3 in a similar color palate and hang them in a row on that wall.
The website is here:

A mid century modern credenza in a lighter color wood than the floor. Or vintage sideboard painted brightly to play off the other accent colors. This will be used as a bar area. Add huge piece of art above and there you go.
if you are on a limited budget, I have a huge selection of DIY art options pinned on my Pinterest account. I would highly recommend DIY'ing some sort of painting using the colors from your pillows, or find a really cool piece of coordinating fabric and frame and hang it on the wall!
Fill it with personal, meaningful art....photos, local art, friend's work, textiles...
OR do a wall of various mirrors....flea market mirrors...I wouldn't do both on the same wall.
Where did you get your sectional. Love it!
Hmmmm..I swear this question was submitted weeks ago. Am I going nuts?
I have a space like this and we bought a very large howard miller clock. It is lovely and modern! If you are crafty you could make a large wall clock for less than $20!
I also have seen this question before. What happened? You didn't like any of our ideas?
I know right? Were our previous suggestions not good enough???
I would make a couple of canvases, or framed art that are the same dimensions as the window.
You can actually have anything you want printed onto canvas, you just have to call around to local printshops. Stretching it is no biggie, either. Just make a frame from 1x2's, buy a decent staple gun, and start from the center. I made aprox 30 pieces for a client this way. Worked great.
I feel like a big print would look too busy with the sectional and built ins, but that's my own preference. To me the big windows and neutral colors are just screaming for a wall planter to inject some natural beauty and color into that space. Succulents, perhaps some flowering ferns?
something whether it's wallpaper, a group framed mirrors, or prints to pick up on the pop of colour of the cushions. The wall with the built in's is so monocramatic some more of that fun andfunky blue would really tie it all in together. Looks great post up some pic's once you decide!
More recycled posts, slow day?
A large, mixed media abstract art canvas would look fantastic on that wall!
You could do art as previously suggested, but it would need to be a rather large piece because you really need to factor in the scale of the window to make that wall balanced. To my eye, you would need something at least as tall as the window and 3 X wider than the window including the moulding.
You could also go with a long console table, a couple of lamps, some candles or flowers and a couple of framed pictures. As long as the top of the framed pictures land somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 of the window height, everything should balance out.
We have had a huge semi-impressionistic painting for decades that was a wedding gift. It is a simple scene of a window looking out on an ocean. Mostly blue tones. It has taken us out into a sunny warm day on many a warm bleak one.
So, I highly recommend a huge painting that you can gaze at.
On a separate note, kind of ironic that once someone pointed out this might be a repeated question, so many people had to repeat the point ;-)
many stores with photo finishing have websites where you can upload a picture and then pick up a canvas box frame of it at the store. It's a nice way to make the wall personal and dressier than a few family portraits.
I think a stenciled wall would look fantastic in that room
Something that picks up the turquoise of your cushions.
Maybe buy a big canvas and make yourself an abstract painting.
What about doing your own abstract art? A big canvas..with some color.

Going with a contemporary theme, I'd say that some floating shelves with candles, b/w pictures, etc. would look good.
Another option would be some vinyl wall art from someplace like artstick. There are a lot of designs that are contemporary and fun, and would look good. They're also pretty inexpensive and temporary, so you can throw something up there and take it down easily when you find something better or your mood changes.
Move the white chair closer to the couch and put a tall, leafy green plant in a turquoise or shiny silver (maybe...) planter between the white chair and the fireplace. Then you won't need as huge of a piece, which will help with your budget, since the larger the more expensive it is. And I would go with something more vertical, or maybe 3-4 square panels that make up a whole picture (you know what I mean?)
Nothing. Leave it blank. Throw something tall into the corner next to the fireplace (I believe a tree was suggested the last time this question was asked).
Yes, this is a re-post, but even more annoying is that the original poser of the question has STILL not responded on either! :-O
I don't like the mirror over the fireplace....too much going on on that wall....I think it was meant to balance it but my eye keeps going to that mirror...maybe it's too big
How about a large floor mirror? You could put a plant or hang some photos next to it. West Elm and Ikea have nice ones.
A piece of pretty fabric stretched over a large frame.
I disagree with people wanting to repeat the colours of the pillows. I think it would look like a furniture store display. I would instead use a contrasting colour, but that's just me...
You could also paint some small crates and hang them to display a few pretty objects.
If not, you could hang a really wide curtain along the ceiling and make sort of like an accent wall that reaches all the way to the corner on both sides. But that is kind of expensive...
I would love to know what color gray that is.
Circle art, to echo the circles in your rug and to soften the generally rectangular elements. Craft stores sell canvas stretched over round frames - pick one up, paint it (mottled) dark grey with a single, small white or turquoise or lime flower / leaf/ tea pot / rain drop / bird / book / phrase / ....
i like these container store hanging panels - large, neat patterns, can be painted, easy to hang with cool pushpins they also sell at container store.
http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10029991&N=&Ntt=wall+decor
also, to add some dimension, i hung my container store panels over mirrors; or you could put colored panels behind them (easy to make with thin wood and whatever fabric or paint you like). and easy to change if you don't like it/want to change it.
yes this is a repost, it may not be the submitter's fault, maybe AT ran out of stuff or they've got the intern spitting stuff out too fast to review.
anyway, the first time this rolled around I asked about the beautiful paint color and never got an answer, dammit i need to know!!
hmm, my comment didn't post.
yes this is a re-post. i also want to know the paint color since the poster didn't answer the first time around.
What a beautiful room! I feel you need something to balance the other side of the wall with the lone window. Maybe another mirror, shutters, even a tall cabinet would work, as long as it wasn't taller than the window. Then you could work on filling the center area - I love the painted stripes on canvas idea! When I did my own diy art, it wasn't quite so nice! How about a framed piece of fabric or a colorful rug? And yes, I would inject one more color to balance it all...
For a big expanse of wall in our bedroom, we bought a huge (about 40 x 60) cheap map of the Grand Canyon that was colorful and cut it into 6 pieces about equal sized and used cheap standard frames and then hung it reassembled 3 on top and 3 on the bottom. Looks awesome and cost about $260 ($10 map and $250 in framing).
I love your pillows :)
how about a giant paiting to cover that wall?
