Does anybody else miss their teen-aged days, when a simple back-of-the-magazine quiz was all you needed to discover you you were? This feature has brought me back: With a write-up of The 6 Personality Types of Gadget Owners, Treehugger's made it easy to see where you fit in to the techie spectrum. Me? I'm an in-denial hoarder.
Do you have a drawer full of old cell phones? Do you find yourself lusting after every new release? Or do you research the gear you'll buy for weeks to make the right purchase?
The way you choose, buy and use your home devices says a lot about you. And if this list is to be believed, we all fit in to one of six personality types.
Want to discover which type of gadget owner you are? Head to TreeHugger and read the descriptions of these 6 techie personalities:
- The Proud Hoarder
- The In-Denial Hoarder
- The Perfectionist
- The Oh!Shiny!-ist
- The It's-Not-Me-It's-Youist
- The Meh-ist
Me? I'm definitely an in-denial hoarder.
I don't feel like I need to upgrade to the latest & shiniest gadgets. For instance, I didn't succumb to the iPhone until the even my 3GS model went on sale. And until last year, I had the same laptop from my senior year of high school.
But looking through closets and drawers reveals that I've held on to my last three cell phones before the iPhone, that old high-school era computer and way too many video game consoles to count. There's still a working Sega Genesis collecting dust in my storage unit.
So yeah, I do buy a ton of gear. But even worse, I refuse to get rid of it. This self-discovery stuff is tough.
Where do you fit in with the 6 gadget-owning personality types? Do you fit any of the descriptions, or are you breaking out of the mold? Tell us in the comments!

I'm definitely a cross between Perfectionist and Oh!Shiny!-ist. :)
in-denial hoarder here. I didn't recognize myself until the article mentioned dark corners stuffed with obsolete laptops and a collection of charging adapters for long dead devices. Guilty.
Meh-ist all the way. Someone else might even be typing this up for me after receiving my comment via carrier pigeon.
Without a doubt, I am the Perfectionist. I will research a product for months, comparing brands and such, and then I'll check for the best deal and monitor price fluctuations. Then I'll buy the most protective case I can find. If only I put as much thought into my romantic choices!
I'm a perfectionist, for the most part. I will research and search for months for the right solution to my needs, then spend forever trying to get the best price. It was four+ months that I waited for the right price before buying a TV, and now that I have it I'm sure it will last at least five years.
But I'm also a hoarder of sorts. Not sure whether or not I'm in denial, but I spend about as much time selling my gear off as I spend planning their purchases. I have an old NES (that I use) along with every other Nintendo console. I also have many computer parts that at least a few times a year find a use when fixing/building something for someone else. However, I throw away or sell the stuff I don't use. It takes up too much space, and I don't have it.
I am probably more a meh-ist than any of the others. But it isn't like I don't have a storage ottoman filled with random cables that I'm not sure what to do with...It is kind of unclear to me how to get rid of my tech that has no resale value.
Perfectionist and in-denial hoarder. Can't give up on the oldest of the old.
