Whatever Clock from Target

As a person who is admittedly late for just about everything (my own wedding was the notable exception), I couldn't help but laugh when a friend sent me the link to this clock today. I am in the market for a new kitchen clock, and suspect that if nothing else, this piece would make me smile as I dash out the door.

This battery-operated wall clock measures 24"W x 24"D x 3"H and is made from cork wrapped around MDF. Though the $100 price tag is more than I typically spend on a clock, I suspect there are folks in my life who would think it money well spent. If you have a friend or family member who is always running late, this might be a great inspiration for a DIY gift for the holidays- the cost of the materials is probably less than $25, and the message, of course, is priceless!

While the clock statement is not grammatically correct, I think many of you are wise enough to know that it was meant to convey the sense of casualness and resignation a person would feel with themselves. It is not a perfect world (especially if you are the type of person who is usually late) and the grammatical error was probably meant to emphasize that...

I get it. Obviously "whatever" is informal. Does any of it really matter? Of course it does not. I just can't help being irritated beyond belief by that particular word. It's just one of my personal pet peeves. I think we all understand why it was used; it just annoys us, perhaps so much that we chose to showcase how anal we are in this thread. I would not, however, describe its use on this clock as irony.

Grammatical errors aside, I LOVE this clock. Probably wouldn't spend $100 on it though, especially not from Target. I wish I could give something like this as a gift but in the Chinese culture, giving clocks is frowned upon. It's like wishing someone a shorter life.

I like this clock. It reminds me of my husband and my little sis. Grammar makes me ill. :)

Oh yeah! and for the UK person, A DIY on this would be really easy! Give it a try, think cork board plus Scrapbook stickers or letter stencils with paint. You can just get a cheap clock and give it a new face.
