The New York Design Center held its fourth annual "What's New, What's Next" event and we were thrilled to attend. Fifty-five showrooms participated in debuting new products, presenting discussion panels to examine topics affecting modern design, and showcasing the latest and greatest in design and home products. We were wowed with what we saw and heard about what's next for the home.
Century Furniture Showroom

Century Furniture featured a presentation from author, designer and tastemaker Charlotte Moss, with Newell Turner, Editor in Chief of House Beautiful. They discussed modern collaging — exploring all current forms, from scrapbooking to the newest medium, Pinterest. We got a sneak peek at Century Furniture's newest piece, a state-of-the-art scrapbooking station, as well as Moss's 8th book, A Visual Life, due out October 9th.
Lexington Home Brands Showroom

Lexington Home Brands and Traditional Home magazine created an exciting panel on various topics concerning how to maintain modernity within traditional design. The panel was comprised of Tori Mellott, Senior Design Editor of Traditional Home, as well as three of the magazine's featured "New Trad" designers; Nina Feudenberger, Christina Murphy and Nick Olsen. Some of their discussion included how a design earns the title of "classic" by weathering trends and withstanding the test of time. They also examined how our modern lives have changed design and spaces due to our less formal, more communal lifestyles, and the best ways to bring new personality to a classic shape through subtle and refined details. The panel predicted that new looks in design will come from Asian influences and continued gravitation toward organic materials.
Hickory Chair-Pearson

Architectural Digest presented a panel in the Hickory Chair - Pearson showroom, with designers exploring the latest innovations in product design, with a focus on what's new this season: mixing modern and classic, graphic design using shapes as a medium, bold colors, introducing new perspectives with new shapes, and using fresh, chic and sexy fabrics.

Get Back Inc. was a gallery showcased in the 1stdibs showroom of the NYDC. Their newest featured design was the Dept. 87 Wall System, made of vintage, industrial American parts — a Get Back Inc. signature. This fully customizable system can be used in lofts, apartments, kitchens, closets and bedrooms. The unit can be made to fit around challenging features, such as radiators and pipes, and can be made in any configuration, with adjustable options and accessories like shelves, desks, drawers, clothing racks or a bar cabinet. All of this wrapped in a beautiful industrial package.
Arteriors Home

The brand new Arteriors showroom space was a wonderland of innovative lighting, accessories, furniture and decor. We got a preview of the newest fall designs. In the spotlight was the popular and newly expanded Mottega line, a trusted lighting resource for designers and retailers, known for its unique and dependable designs.

Finally, shelving becomes furniture worthy of admiration. It's no surprise that Get Back Inc. has come up with it. There's no one out there like them. Their Dept. 87 Wall System has everything; practicality, adjustability, strength, flexibility, and originality. You'll want to get a few sections just on looks alone, plus the warmth it gives off. This isn't reproduction knock off crap from Restoration Hardware. This is the real deal made with vintage parts and materials. Hat's off to designer Tim Byrne. Steve Martin
WOW Get Back, Inc.
What an innovative & versatile system that allows me to custom design what I want, all with the vintage industrial feel. Love the adjustable features/options. Especially that when I want to change the entire room (yearly), I can go to Get Back - not my husband, the Carpenter - for new components and system redesign. This is the real deal. A must have.
Serendipitously came across this ingenious wall system in the throes of a major renovation to our loft. Perfect!! Bold, clean design...flexible configurations...all finished in such a lovely patina. Sending this straight over to my designer.
Take a moment to visit the Dept. 87 and Get Back website...a truly outstanding approach to memorable decor. Having missed the show, perhaps a trip to CT is imminent.
Get Back Inc.—What a great way to organize an apartment that's unique, functional and stylish. This can really add character and authenticity to a new condo or loft. I love the tactile juxtaposition of the reclaimed industrial elements combined with the fine cabinetry work. It's clean, smart and sophisticated—Bravo!
Awesome! GetBack Inc has done it again! Not only do their designs and workmanship bring us industrial treasures from the past in an updated usable modality which incorporate"pizzazz" and sentimentality at the same time, there Dept. 87 created a new system which fills a desperate need for confined spaces! The engineuity, flexibility and simplicity of use create an environment of peaceful organization which is, not only appealing, but the units engage the eye and please the users sense of order.
