Our Renovation Diary alumni are an unshakable bunch. Even with schedule, budget, and a host of other setbacks along the way to their new spaces, they're willing to get back on the reno horse and ride again. Here's what they're planning to tackle next:
From Danielle & Austin:
Finishing our courtyard out front! We want to build a community fence and get some patio furniture out there. We also still need to paint the front exterior of the house, but we’re going to change the colors, so we’re waiting until we have enough money to paint the entire house. We’d also like to add a window in the laundry room for some exterior symmetry around the front door. We looked into doing this during the project, but it wasn’t in the budget. Eventually we’ll replace the floors in the rest of the house to match the new ones, but no more major projects!
Eventually I’d like to redo my bathroom. With the kitchen all new and beautiful, the bathroom looks even worse by comparison. Someone painted the bathtub and surrounding tile long ago, and the paint is now flaking off at an alarming rate, clogging the drain, and exposing splotches of the old, yellow tile. The floor is composed of several layers of tile and vinyl, and the plumbing needs to be updated to meet modern code. But realistically, I’ll need to wait at least a year before I’m financially and psychologically prepared to take on another major remodel. In the meantime, I have lots of smaller projects in mind, like redoing the layout of our small bedroom closet to maximize storage space, and possibly collaborating with my neighbors to fix up my building’s entryway and front stairwell.
Putting money back into my savings account! Seriously though, for now, I’m going to just enjoy my beautiful new kitchen. Maybe in few years I’ll think about updating my bathroom to be as efficient and modern-looking as the kitchen. But for now I’m content enjoying the finished product!
From Christine & Pierre:
We have a stair railing leading to our basement that is a baby death-trap! So we'll need to replace that before our little one starts crawling. We also have a vestibule project to finish that I abandoned when we started the kitchen.
From Emily & Aaron:
Like most of the other renovation diaries alumni, we will be sitting still and replenishing our savings for a while. Truthfully, there will always be something that needs to be done. The stairway down to the garage needs carpeting, the master shower needs a glass door, and the garage could use a new coat of paint and storage. In the meantime, we are just happy getting settled into our newly renovated home.
From Mike & Sandie:
We plan on mastering the art of siesta. Then we’re back on the horse with the whole kit-n-kaboodle of a 1200 square foot basement suite. Then... more naps.
