We find it impossible, whenever we walk into a Bed Bath & Beyond, to avoid the massive wall of Yankee Candles. We can waste many a minute in front of this display: uncap, inhale, repeat.
Although we're always curious about new scents, there's one candle that has owned our nose since first whiff...
We adore the Sage & Citrus scented Yankee Candle. We occasionally test out other fragrances but we find that we tire of them quickly. Yet the Sage & Citrus, with its spicy botanical aroma and earthy green color, is our hands-down favorite because we return to it again and again.
So do our noses agree? What's your favorite Yankee scent?

I don't like anything from yankee candle. It's all too artificial smelling.
I always have a Macintosh freshener in my car. My mom thinks it smells like rotting apples, but I think she's crazy. I love scents that remind me of my favorite season...fall. Lately I bought a room freshener in Autumn Wreath. So soothing.
they all smell sort of too much for me - pacifica candles are my fav!

they last forever and have great up-to-date fragrances.
yankees always seem to be a little post-trend.
Let me say I am not a huge fan of Yankee Candles. HOWEVER, I do have one that I really enjoy. I believe it is called Clean Cotton. It pretty much smells like dryer sheets. It is a faint scent, but I like it.
Clean Cotton all the way. I love the smell of fresh laundry, so when I can't clean my blankets, curtains, pillows, etc. to get that scent, I burn a Clean Cotton candle. It's almost as good.
I love going to their factory store in Mass. I think I might have to make a trip.
My favorites are greenhouse, and christmas eve.
I used to work in the offices for yankee candle and can no longer use those candles. To get to my office from the parking lot I had to walk across the factory floor, passing 4 giant vats where 4 different batches of fragrant waxes would cook (not always complementary scents either). I definitely had work clothes, in other words, permanently scented clothes. From all that, I just need a 5-10 year break from candles.
Although all super nice people to work for, free gym, free lunch wednesdays and a great employee discount.
A discontinued scent "White Christmas" is my all-time favorite. Not sure why it was associated with the holidays though (maybe that's why it's discontinued).
Clean Cotton all the way. I love fresh, clean smells. Nothing stuffy, or sweet, or spicy for me.
Too bad we can't have candles in the dorms.
Yankee Candles are generally too overpowering for my tastes, but I got Midnight Jasmine as a gift and it can be quite nice in moderation. I use it if I've done any particularly fragrant cooking.
Midsummer's Night!!!!
A friend had one in her glovebox and when it opened it smelled like MEN. Mmmmm. When she told me what it was I had to buy it. I keep it by my bedroom door, for that extra little horomonal whiff. :)
Also, coconut, but I'm a nut for coconut, so no surprise.
I love clean cotton too! I generally don't like most of the scents because they're too strong and artificial, but I think I will give the sage & citrus a try since I tend to like clean green scents or something more earthy like sandalwood.
Mmm clean cotton. Yes yes. Also I have two other favorites: Aunt Sadies Bayberry - sooo christmasly perfect. And the letter M from Anthropologie.
My friends are always making fun of me for having an initial that is completely unrelated to mine, but that scent smells better. So there.
I love candles but am super picky about the scent.

Clean Cotton. That freshly done laundry smell gets me every time...
I was always a bit snobby about Yankee Candles, but then I smelled Herbal Ice Tea at a friend house and got hooked. That scent is long gone, but now I love their Autumn Wreath and Autumn Leaves. Their fruity stuff is far too fruity for me.
The only yankee candle products that I like are the clean cotton plug in air freshner and car freshner.
When I was in art school as an undergraduate and trying to find a boyfriend who wasn't a sensitive basket case, I found Midsummer's Night. It's a black candle and it smells like a i-don't-need-to-borrow-a-dollar-for-a-taco-because-i-have-a-job kind of man-boy. My roommate and I would go in together on the biggest jar they had.
It was a very conceptual scent experience.
I love their Splash of Rain scent.
Apples! I read an article that the scent of apples was supposed to calm dogs down during thunderstorms...that may be a total load of cr*p but I think it works...
Augh, can't stand those.
Clean cotton is definitely my favorite. I also like Christmas Eve during the holidays.
Clean Cotton. I don't think I've ever purchased any of their others.
Macintosh is my favorite. I used to work at hallmark and preview all the new scents but macintosh will always be my favorite.
Another not-fan. I'd rather pay the extra and get a really nice soy candle from Bluewick. Yankee always struck me as overly synthetic bordering on toxic. Indoor air pollution!
Wedding Day is also nice.
They have a great Yankee Candle Outlet at the primeoutlets in Jeffersonville, OH. Cheap candle shopping heaven.
bay breeze
macintosh
Clean Cotton
Sage and Citrus
Otherwise I prefer Trapp Candles: Bob's Flower Shop, Vanilla Grapefruit, and Sexy Cinnamon are my favorites.
Midsummer Night. Ever since I received it as a bday gift 12 or so years ago, my friends and I have always referred to it as The Man Candle. I WISH the men that occupy my time smelled this good :(
Sun and sand! Smells like sunscreen and makes me feel like summer all year round!
Christmas Eve during the holidays also!
Butter Cream is the best! I can't bring myself to buy any other scent because BC is so delicious.
oh! yes..wedding day!!!
Sunflower. Always.
Clean Cotton.
They also have a delicious cranberry one that I love to use around the holidays. And I'll admit to having a weakness for the christmas cookie scent, too.
Usually only keep them lit in the bathrooms, when we have guests. The scent can be over-powering.
clean cotton - i keep the air fresheners in my car and my friends go nuts over it. it smells so fresh!
a close second is fresh cut roses. mmm...
LEMON!!!! It's like having a clean house all day long!
Yes, I hate them all. Just walking past the display at BB&B gives me a headache.
My favorite candle is Votivo's Island Grapefruit.
Pumpkin Spice
is this an ad disguised as content...?
headaches and ugly packaging.
Midnight Jasmine
redneckmodern, I had the same vibe... Seems very product placement-ey.
Sorry you felt an AD vibe, redneckmodern & laila. Just to clarify, this post is not a placement of product. It was written straight from my Sage & Citrusy heart.
I have such a terrible Yankee Candle story...it involves the "festival of lights" version and my waspy family's ignorance...other than that my only comment is that I hate candles in jars - it just bugs me. LOL
I used to go to school somewhat north of Yankee Candle. I hate all of its scents for that reason. Imagine driving down the highway and being assaulted by thundering herds of strawberry early in the morning. Nauseating.
redneckmodern & laila... Every other post on AT is about a specific product. Isn't that the point?
no no no. the packaging is horrible. it's like something you'd see in Cracker Barrel and the scent is totally fake and overwhelming.
i love Diptyque - Baies
i guess i am a candle snob. i can't stand walking by those yankee candle stores in the mall-it's an assault on the senses. i much prefer votivo's mountain sage or my current- henri bendel fig.
I went to college in Amherst, Ma and I loved our annual trip to the Yankee Candle Store for holiday gifts. My roommate always bought Melon and it will forever reminde of college. The Santa's workshop room is fantastic, the guy who dresses as Santa was so authentic.
Not in order:
Pink Grapefruit (discontinued...)
Clean Cotton!!
Macintosh
Though I do buy Yankee candles, I think they are just WAY too overpriced! Come on. They're just candles.
Oh, but the scents... Other brands don't smell as good as theirs and they do offer more scents...
Just candles, but I spent way too much on just candles.
Jessica -
didn't mean to offend - Yankee Candle just doesn't seem so AT to me, I guess. Clearly I'm in the minority, though - there are a lot of comments on this thread!
mmm, Right now I'm love the "Cider-web" Halloween candle that came out recently. I too love clean cotton, but most of everything is a little too strong for me.
There was one that Pier1 had a while ago, it was one of their mixed-scent candles, something with oceans. I dunno... but it was amazing:)
Lilac Blossoms, but then again I LOVE anything lilac.
Leather (the scent) makes me think of saddles and tack and cowboy boots which makes me think of cowboys. :-)
Juicy Orange, but I use the plug-ins. I'm not a candle fan.
I've never really cared for their candles. Candles in jars just bug me.
I work at Pier 1 right now so I enjoy my discount... white thyme is probably my favorite right now and it's a soy candle! It's a filled candle but it's the kind I could reuse.
their new Beanswax line of soy candles has a scent named Cran Slam that is awesome. it'll clear cooking smells out of your kitchen without being to sweet or "fake" smelling. also, leaving the jar uncapped in a small bathroom works like an air freshener.
macintosh and clean cotton
I'm with you Laila. What's next, your favorite Orange Julius flavors?
Willow Breeze
Balsam and Cedar, Bayberry and China Sea. I'm not sure which are still in production. It's been a while since I've been to a yankee candle store.
I used to love these candles.. but then discovered I was spending way too much trying to get more scent out of my candles.. I found these wickless, flameless candle warmers and bars .. I loved them so much, I signed up to sell them.. So, just so you guys know.. for those of you that can't have traditional candles in dorms or work places, because of the flames.. you can now.. these candle warmers have a light bulb inside of them that warm the wax to body temperature...and slowly release the fragrance.. There's over 80 scents to choose from.... let me know if you're interested..

Creme Brulee is my favorite by far (soft and sweet, with a hint of boooze) and christmas eve (fruity with sugary plums) and christmas pudding (actually smells of pudding) the ones that don't do it for me are Evening air (smells like man armpit) christmas wreath (smells of nothing) and coffee (this only belongs in starbucks to pump up the fragrance of real coffee that they don't sell) as you can tell im not a grassy herbal candle lover
Agreed that YC needs new packaging and needs to come down on the prices! That said, Lemon, Fresh Mint, Autumn Leaves, Pumpkin Spice are all nice without being over-powering.
Does anybody know of a cedar-scented candle and where to buy it? Have been looking for a long time. Cedar is my favorite scent.
Clean Cotton is their best scent.
Just a fresh light scent.
I love hydrangea scent and only YC seems to have it, which smells wonderful I must add.
Hmm, not a big fan of Yankee Candle. I used to like their Buttercream and Sage & Citrus, but since my MIL gave me a huge jar of their Pomegranate Cider scented candle, which smells extremely artificial and gives me a headache even unlit, I can't stand most of them anymore. I agree on the packaging as well. I don't like the shape of their jar and the ugly label on it. I like tumbler style containers more.
Christmas Cookie is by far the best.I burn that throughout the year.I'm not too impressed with Evening Primrose,it has no scent at all.
