Well, I took the plunge. After three years of thinking, talking, dreaming, planning, saving (you name it) I bought it. I'm thrilled with the first use last night and I'm actually looking forward to using it again (never thought I'd say that about vacuuming). Well Dyson, welcome to the family.

I bought the Dyson DC25 yesterday and I've honestly been dreaming about it for quite some time. I live in a rowhome that has wood floors throughout, with the exception of a carpeted staircase and hallway. For me, the DC25 seems to be a great option and I'm thrilled with my purchase (more on that later)

I have a similar Dyson (earlier model) and like it because it is great for maneuvering around furniture placed on area rugs. I also like that you can turn off the brush and vacuum the wood floors as well. It is small enough to store easily as well.
I've tried both Dysons and Mieles at three different vacuum specialty stores, and had salespeople at all three recommend the Miele over the Dyson. We decided to follow their advice and I LOVE my Miele.
(FYI, an upright wouldn't have been good for us because we have a lot of small spaces like the area under our king-sized bed. For this reason, we decided to go with a canister and found that the Dyson canisters START at $700...the comparable Miele was $400.)
I couldn't agree more - the Dyson is the top of the line in functionality and technology when it comes to vacuum cleaners. They can clean so many different surfaces, and especially if you have kids or pets, these things are great at keeping everything very clean.
I found some really great prices on dyson vacuum cleaners at ABC Vacuum Warehouse if anyone is looking to price online.
I gotta say, Miele > Dyson for both performance and aesthetics (not that you should care if your vacuum matches your KitchenAid stand mixer...). The costs are comparable.
My mom has a Dyson and my sister has a Miele, so I tested both thoroughly before deciding, but it was kind of a no-brainer once I turned on the Miele. We have two cats and a dog and the Miele has changed my life - or at least the apartment's life. I ended up getting the Miele S4212 Neptune, which, being sea foam green, is cute and powerful!
I love our Dyson Animal (DC25) - its amazing how much stuff that thing sucks up! (& the see-through canister makes it very obvious).
It easily changes from carpet to floor with one button - but I do admit that its not great at the floor sucking (not bad though)...much better at carpet.
I have a Miele Antares and I love it!
I have a Dyson upright (the yellow first-generation one) and a handheld, both of which suck (or don't, as the case may be). The suction is poor on my upright, and the switch or battery on the handheld doesn't work properly so it only runs in small bursts. When I feel I can afford it, I want to buy a Miele, even though I prefer bagless and upright, and they mostly make canisters that use bags.
