We've mentioned in a few posts that we've gotten bit by the redecorating bug. Our SO has given us the go-ahead and now we're proceeding full force with the process. Only problem is &mdash we're not sure where to start. What came first, the tech or the furniture?

We're redecorating our living room first. We're having a hard time deciding if we should pick out furniture that we initially like and make our tech work around it, or if we should purchase furniture based on the tech we have.
We're imagining the process will be a lot harder if we base our furniture on the tech we already have. We don't want to compromise our style and taste just because we have an HD Cable box, DVR, PS3, DVD Player and a Wii. Yes, that sounds like a lot, but we imagine the average tech savvy resident has about the same amount of tech.
From the research we've already done &mdash we're noticing that most furniture (no matter what style) comes in different sizes to accomodate different lifestyles. We're going for a retro, almost mid-century scene and we're pleasantly surprised to find large media cabinets. With that said, we've also discovered that if we're buying from that actual era &mdash we're going to have to break out the tools to customize them for our tech.
We're looking for suggestions &mdash what's your retechorating game plan?

Well, first if you have a turntable don't put it on the same surface as your speakers like in the first picture. The whole thing will rattle in time with the music.
Form definitely must follow function in this case. What good is that mid-century modern media cabinet if it won't fit your Tivo?
Where is the cabinet in that first photo from?
Build something custom to suit your tech needs. You will be happier if all your toys are easily accessible than if you had the coolest furniture ever but had to become a contortionist to turn on your gaming consoles.
A new word is born. I have never seen retechorating and I could not read it at first and wondered what it meant.
