I have a thing for lonely chairs. They're just so sad, but some require so much work to refinish, re-string, or reupholster that they no longer seem worth the efforts. This idea takes two outcasts and artfully combines them into one. It makes me wonder: what else could I do this with?
What makes this pairing from Karen Ryan so successful is the use of color to make the two pieces visually appear as one. The combining of the two pieces was the simple part as one chair is literally just set inside the other and attached with plastic zip ties.
Where one chair has arms, the other has a seat and the whole look is brought together by the artful use of paint. You probably won't be whipping up a batch of these bad boys to circle your reclaimed kitchen table, but one or two would make quite a statement.
What do you think of the look? Too designer, or just the right amount of cool? Let us know below!

It's cool as art. However, in my life, in my home, nothing like this would ever make it through the front door.
It looks like it's trying too hard.
I love the idea, but it's joined by zip ties?? So when you move the chair, I assume the two pieces slide around inside/around each other? Recipe for pinches and caught clothing. How much harder could it be to join them in a more solid and permanent way?
I would have stopped at the yellow chair. This piece of "art" is, I don't know...
A quote from Juraassic Park comes to mind, "Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
As a conceptual piece of art I think it is interesting - as a piece of furniture I'm not so sure!
