What happens when two gaming geeks… specifically, two Minecraft geeks in love… decide to get married? Why, they theme their whole wedding in pixelated graphic style, from his 8-bit tie to their block-based wedding cake to pictured honeymoon Minecraft destinations, of course! Matt and Asia's wedding is as geeky and romantic as they get…
They met through their church (Matt said he fell for her watching her dance, awww) but they truly bonded over the game of Minecraft. They built a house together in the digital world and have been inseparable ever since, both in the game and in real life. Matt even proposed to Asia up on stage at MineCon with the help of the game's creators. So it was no surprise that Matt and Asia would plan a Minecraft themed wedding, and wow, did they ever. They worked hard and put together an incredible event, which truly reflected their love for Minecraft, ahem, each other! We felt so lucky to capture such an awesome day, both in photos and with a wedding film (at the end of this post). It was a labor of love with lots of DIY and help from some fellow Minecraft lovers. Matt, Asia and friends created the pixel-trees from cardboard boxes and used them to decorate the structural pillars, genius!
A couple that game together, stays together. Congrats to the lovely bride and handsome groom! More photos at The Goodness.

Nomade Express Slee...
I am not a gamer, but I thought this was pretty cool. And I would really like one of those ties. LOL
It's very cool but they are going to spend the entire reception explaining to people what it is and most people won't get it. Sometimes non-traditional doesn't go over so well at a wedding.
the wedding gown and deck shoes is just over the top! What a wonderful, creative wedding! I can't wait to see their house and what they plan to do for the kids' bedrooms (if they decide to have any)......
These two people love each other and they are having a bloody good time. Does it really matter if no one else "gets it"? No.
I know I won't be inviting CBReynolds to my wedding!
@bluepearl, exactly!
How about the explanation: "It's a game we like and is important to us." Bam. Done. No big deal.
Also, every wedding I've ever been to, if I've been confused/puzzled about some aspect I just...
...*deep breath*...
...keep it to myself, because it's not my wedding.
Also, I love Minecraft, this is adorable, but I'm a bit nervous about the proximity of the creepers!
oh no...my hubby minecrafts, i dont does it mean we'll not last the year... oh no...
You know what goes a long way to letting people know what Minecraft is? Little cards at each table with a quick summary. That's all you need. I think this is great. We did a lot of things for our wedding that tons of people didn't "get" but we enjoyed them and so did many of our friends! Some family members, bless them dearly, would not have understood some decisions no matter how hard we tried. So we stopped trying.
AHHH!!! I LOVE MINECRAFT!!!!!! it was the first game my hubby and I played together when we were dating 1000 miles apart. I still play from time to time!!! This is brilliant!!!!
I think this is lots of fun, and it's great that you have something in common that you both love to do. Congratulations on your marriage- and on doing something unique and special!
So cute and sweet my teeth hurt!
Ahhh they are just too adorable!
Very creative! The last wedding I went to was uncomfortable for the guests and not fun at all. This one looks better.
I don't think explaining the gamer thing to people would be a problem. In fact, it would give people something to talk about. Weddings can be awkward events.
I don't disagree with CBREYNOLDS, I think weddings with these silly themes are pretentious. Just have a traditional wedding and then have a pretentious reception if you need to. But seriously, how much do you crave attention that your wedding is themed off of minecraft? Get over yourself.
My 10 year old and 8 year old are addicted to this game and would love this wedding.
@Giljunie - That looks like the least pretentious couple I've ever seen. They're sharing something they love with other people not craving attention. Seems more whimsical and fun. It's their day and it's not like they have pictures of themselves all over the place. They have a theme based on something that's important to them, isn't that better than generic wedding package #1? I went to a wedding with absolutely no personality, it's like they just picked whatever came as part of the hall. I'd take this 20 times over anything like that. Looks like you're the one that needs to get over yourself and take some happy pills to give yourself a better attitude.

@GILJUNIE; I'm confused. So by "traditional" wedding do you mean the kind where the bride would wear a cheongsam? How about one where the groom steps on a glass? Or did you mean the traditional one where the Agni bears prime witness? Unless you meant a white wedding? In which case-- can we call Queen Victoria's fashion statement really *traditional*? I mean, it only proved that the bride was wealthy enough to afford a dress that was very likely to be ruined by spills or stains after a single wear. But I digress.
Quit tearing cooler people than you down. *That's* pretentious.
Without getting into what a wedding should or shouldn't be, I think the concept was very well executed, and that alone makes it a success. They had a clear vision of what they wanted and they were able to create it with a lot of collaboration, which is not a bad way to start a marriage or a design project.
@GILJUNIE: you know, whenever I see a "traditional" wedding I wonder why the couple was craving so much attention to spend thousand of dollars for a party. All big weddings are done for attention. At least here it was personal, original & unique.
Sigh, I think I have seen my 10-year-old's future.
So your little 10 year old will be an awesome adult! I love certain theme weddings. Following the flock is so 1800s
