I'm not a big fan of those barely sharpened, stubby little numbers they call pencils at IKEA, supposedly to help shoppers write down the name, numbers, and aisle locations while shopping. They make me feel like I'm in 2nd grade and have been sent to the corner to work on my ABC's.
Although IKEA has an official catalog app, it doesn't let you scan and identify products while in-store, nor check inventory downstairs in the pick-it-your-darn-self warehouse section. Am I alone in wondering when IKEA is going to ditch the pencils, or at least offer an official shopping app*?
* Sadly, the formerly available unoffical .99 cents SwedeShop app is no longer listed on iTunes for download.

Nomade Express Slee...
i would just prefer ikea closer than 7 hours away.. or that everything is for sale online..
I would love an app. Last time I was there I used my phone to take a picture of the tag with the warehouse location instead of writing anything down.
The canadians seem to have one: http://www.psfk.com/2012/05/ikea-shopping-app.html
I have one on my iPhone (US) called "Ikea shopping list" made by Since Eight. I have no idea where I got it, but it seems to work: http://appfinder.lisisoft.com/app/ikea-shopping-list.html Looks like it got pulled from the app store too.
The reason they want you to write down the numbers with the pencils is so that you continue walking through the store. If you could just find out the stock and location through an app, you'd skip the display area and go right to the warehouse...
while i appreciate the thought of cutting down on waste (not to mention how using those mini pencils makes my handwriting look like a four year-old's...), i think that replacing the lists entirely with an app ignores the fact that there are still lots of people who don't have smartphones or who aren't the most tech savvy. if they wanted to make the experience even more overwhelming, then this would be one way to do it, hah.
I have an unofficial iphone app called Ikea Smartlist by Okode they also have a pro version- You can either photograph the barcode or punch in the 8 digit code. You can save it to your list and it will tell you were the item is in teh store and how many they have in stock. I use it all the time.
Your phone has a built in ikea app. It's labeled as camera. I know, weird.
Sorry for the smug... I regret that immediately.
