We just love wood and all the wonderful, warm tones it comes in. Dark, ebony colors, light, barely-there tones, sweet honey-colored ones. And the patterns! We love when a wood's natural pattern comes into play. We couldn't help but notice the strong wood elements showing up in house tours recently. It seems wood in all its forms is a strong detail that doesn't want to go unnoticed. In Erin's Warm & Wood-Wrapped Austin Bungalow, wood almost overwhelms, showing up on the ceilings, walls and floors as well as in an amazing reclaimed-wood staircase and kitchen counter. Other house tours have really light, honey-colored floors that help set the tone for the rest of the color palette. We like how in Jen Ramos' house dark wood floors and furniture help make lots of light-colored items pop. And we're a huge fan of wood on the walls, both modern and sometimes even more traditional versions! Here are some recent house tours where wood takes center stage:
Top Row:
1. Erin's Warm & Wood-Wrapped Austin Bungalow
2. Hannah's Cozy, Creative La Cañada Home
3. The Las Vegas Home of MadeByGirl's Jen Ramos
4. Natalie's Living Design Lab
5. Jason & Marisa's Wonderfully Woodsy Dallas Home
Bottom Row:
6. Rodellee's Sunny Southern California Style
7. Michael's Masculine & Modern Open Studio
8. Interior Designer Craig Olsen's Hancock Park Home
9. Justin's "Warm Modern" Sherman Oaks Home
10. The Shepherds' Sunny & Simple Remodel
Look around your place...where do you have wood in your home? On your floors? Ceiling? Walls? Lots of furniture? Would you say your place is woodsy? Or is it lacking in this natural element? Let us know what your balance of wood is!

White Enamel Flatwa...
I have a lot of wood furniture. None of it is dark because that seems too formal and traditional for my home.
I like wood if it's done right. It can get overwhelming and cave-like, though (the first picture is just too much!). I LOVE the look of #8: the ceiling definitely draws the eye up and the beams are spectacular. With some leggy furniture, it would be practically perfect!
Further proof that brown is a great color.
Nice collection.
I would love to see a post about design solutions for bungalows with original wood trim. I don't want to paint white latex over the oak in my/living dining room.
Four and ten are especially beautiful.
I second wyyfe's request about bungalows. If I see one more of those places with the gorgeous hardwood trim and built-ins covered over with white latex paint I will just cry.
Whats a home without at least some wood... and hard to get by without having some wood as most, tables, dressers, etc are made from it. Real, naturally finished Cherry has always been popular but we have seen the interest in Walnut really rise lately. And two tone Maple, Walnut pieces can be especially striking. From a solidness standpoint it is tough to go wrong with any of these species for good quality furniture so it basically becomes a color choice. You can get some more "good wood" info here:

My house was built and designed by my grandfather. He liked a darker wood. Not my style really. Dark wood doors, cabinets, around the windows...I feel like it's distracting. My grandparents decorated with a lot of dark browns and tans. I have a different taste but it feels like it clashes with the wood.
I mentioned painting over it and my mom flipped out :(
I really love dark wood- I think it's really classic. I think too much can be overkill though. I'm always on the lookout for anything wooden to add to my home because I love the natural earth tones.
Does anyobody remember Jennifer Garner/Sydney Bristow's apartment or house on Alias? Not her first one where she lived with Francie, but later she had one that was all dark wood walls and built-ins. I have dreamed about that place for years, and I used to tivo late-night repeats of the show hoping the catch an ep that had some scenes there.
I guess I'm not alone in loving that apartment -- one of the first results in a google search is this apartment therapy post about it! Now that's some wood stealing the show.
