Q: I really love this particular bed frame (that I think Apartment Therapy featured at some point) but I have no idea how to find something similar. Craigslist has a lot of IKEA beds and other great stuff, but not much like this (at least not in Seattle). Where would I look to find a beautiful bed like this one?

Shaw's Original Fir...
Hey Teresa! I would check flea markets, second hand stores, antique stores. Find something sturdy but beat up for a good price and do the painting yourself (if you rub vaseline on the places you want the wood to show through, like in the picture, then paint, you can avoid sanding just wipe off when you're done!)
thanks for the tip Goddessofpurple I'll keep a note of this
I often see beds like that at estate sales (look for ones that mention the residents have lived in the house for 50 years) and good country flea markets.
Fremont market, auction houses (the weekly one at Pacific Galleries is interestingly uneven), estate sales. I have seen similar items on CL Seattle, though.
Teresa, you may be ignoring beds with potential because they still have their original wood finish. This is something that you might have to expend a little elbow grease to get. Also take a look at thrift stores, the kinds associated with churches.
Here are some listed on CL nearby you, just might need a coat of paint:

Teresa, I also love the bed! Sadly, the ones I did find were only full size, I needed queen size. I did manage to find one - not exact but looks similar - at PBTEEN that comes in both full/queen size. It's pricey but it's new and looks very similar.

If the link doesn't take you directly to the page the bed is named "Lilac Bed."
I would also suggest antique stores and thift stores. I have seen a number of beds in a similar style that could use some elbow grease that would be almost exact replicas of this bed at my local thift stores. Good luck on your search!
Realize that antique beds are going to be full beds. Larger beds (Queen and King) were only introduced in the 1960s.
"Sadly, the ones I did find were only full size, I needed queen size."
Then you're probably out of luck, as vintage beds typically maxed out at full size.
(That's why they're called "Full Size" - They were the largest you could get at the time without going custom.)
My friend just sent me this link! That is my bed in my old room!! I bought this bed in NH at an antique store. It is only full size. I am actually looking to sell it, so if you're ever in NH let me know! It comes apart and is very easy to move. :)

Another market in Seattle that often has items like this is 2nd Saturdayz at Warren Magnuson Park. It's every 2nd Saturday year round (with the exception of Aug). You can spend a lot of time there -- it's great.
I'm in the midst of the same search - trying to find that antique style frame but in a Queen size. I'm starting to think that the best way is to find a used reproduction bed on CL, but no luck yet.
Two options for size problems:
1. Talk to a local carpenter. Often, they can extend the edges of the headboard. It's not cheap, but old beds are solid and built so much better than most new ones that it will likely be worth it in the long run.
2. If it's king size you need, buy two twins and join them together. There are LOTS of cute twin beds out there, and you can usually easily find matching pairs.
ps. candle wax also works to "antique" a paint finish and it's not as slimy as vaseline.
So many great suggestions! I had no idea that queen and king sized beds were new (well, in the last 50 years). The PBTeen bed might be a good option if I can't find anything at estate sales, fleaa markets, etc, so thanks for the link.
Violetmarsh, I love your home! I saved multiple pictures from it when it first was on AT. So beautiful and happy! I wish I could buy your bed from you, but Seattle and NH are a bit far apart!
And to the Seattle locals, thanks for the tips! I'd never heard of some of those places, I'm excited to go check them out, even if I don't find a bed!
There is a similar version at Pottery Barn Teen.
