Q: I'm looking for a desk like the one seen in the image. I missed out on this one but havent been able to find anything like it. Where should I begin my search for this two-in-one piece that would be perfect? I know i could get a desk and put a cabinet beside it but I like the idea of having ample workspace all in one beautiful package. Suggestions?

I'd DIY a version. You can get round tapered legs like this easily at most big box hardware stores. Find a credenza you like, get a top cut down to size and add the legs. Stain and poly....It would look great!
you could always "hack" one of your own? It's probably much easier to find a dresser that you like on its own, that's the right height. Then you could add on a long piece of painted plywood/mdf that creates a new dresser top as well as the desk top, then add a couple of legs at the end? Especially easy since it looks like the top on this has squared edges (would be more difficult if it had a routered edge that you wanted to duplicate.
lol @ mntwmyn... great minds think alike.
You could do this with a long parsons-style table/desk and small filing cabinets. Just make them all the same color.

I agree with the DIY suggestions. In over 50 years of flea marketing and thrift shopping I don't recall EVER seeing one like this. Not sayinhg they aren't out there, only that (at least in my experience) they aren't common enough to expect to find. ("The one that got away...")
Crate and Barrel has this: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/furniture/desks/reese-tobacco-compact-office/s120212
It's more of a fold-out thing but it's a nice credenza. They used to have one where the top and side legs slid out into something similar to what you've pictured, but they must not make it anymore.
Here's the one I was looking for. Of course, google would send me to unpluggd for it: http://www.unplggd.com/unplggd/tables-desks/convertible-compact-desk-060190
There are a few reclaimed wood furniture companies in town that build custom pieces like this. You could check out Arbor Exchange (arborla.com) and District Mill Works (http://districtmillworks.com/) for pricing and galleries.
I figured this would be the case. But i mean they did create one at one point (i DID find that one right?) its just a shame they dont have any version available now.
DIY version is going to be tough seeing as im in NYC and the space allowing me to do something like this is well... minimal. Perhaps i may be able to find someone to replicate the piece. Are there places that will do that?

Bassett has some good stuff for home office furniture. Ikea too.
Here is a LOCAL Seller selling a built in mid century desk and dresser in one.

I was thinking about getting some inexpensive IKEA pieces and an IKEA countertop and doing something similar.
