Q: I watched the season premiere of Mad Men last weekend and fell in love with the blue swag light in Don Draper's new apartment. Does anyone know the source? I've tried all my internet search tricks and have come up empty. I wonder if maybe the set designers created it themselves. If so, I'm totally ready to DIY this mad swag myself.

White Enamel Flatwa...
So happy to see this post!! I would love to find out where this came from.
...well now you know what happens in the season premiere! :)
The set designers probably didn't make it themselves. I saw this light once hanging in my friend's neighbor's garage! They said that they've had it forever. There was also a gorgeous Broyhill credenza in the garage collecting dust. Some people are clueless.
It's definitely vintage.....if you live anywhere near Santa Cruz check out this place for anything mid century: http://www.thepinksquirrelsantacruz.com/Funky-Furniture.html. Sometimes they have amazing vintage lamps and always tons or credenzas and dressers from that era. They even had the couch that is in Pete's office (that I just saw in the first episode of the new season) at one point.
I'm digging that blue petals swag light myself. I bet it came from one of those second hand furniture shops in Southern Cali filled with tons of Mid Century treasures collecting dust. Love those places too death! If your really serious about tracking the lamp down, maybe you should attempt connecting the set designing department over @ "Mad Men" for more info? What do you have to lose, right?
we had lights just like these in our first house. they definitely didn't fit the style of the home or our tastes, so we took them out and sold them on Craigslist. I would search antique stores and craigslist to find them.
Oh and you must check Ebay! Also an excellent source for vintage lighting.
I purchased one for $35.00 off of craig's list but it wasn't blue. Don't scream, but I removed the 'bubble' design and recovered it in fabric. If it was this gorgeous blue, I would have left it alone.
Currently, there are a pair of these on craig's list for sale in the Contra Costa area of California. I believe it is listed as the EAST BAY. But they are not blue; colored ones are really hard to find. I wish you luck.
look in dumpsters...or in the garbage cans after people buy 1950s/60s houses and remodel...
they aren't blue, but did you see these? you could always make an offer: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Two-Hollywood-Regency-HANGING-SWAG-LIGHTS-Mid-Century-Modern-VINTAGE-Light-/170772825102?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27c2da840e#ht_3374wt_1026
Emily Henderson just bought two of them in pink!

This isn't going to help you find one; but, I gave that exact lamp in red to my local salvation army last year when I cleaned out my grandmothers house. I hated that thing.
also, it's not quite the same, but reminiscent: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MID-CENTURY-SPANISH-GOTHIC-SWAG-LAMP-LIGHT-/260875827001?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cbd693739#ht_500wt_986

I have a feeling that Megan Draper picked that out, not Don.
@LYONSTILL I can't locate the item on Craigslist list in EAST BAY.Can please post the link on Craigslist? Thanks :)

I've seen similar swag lamps on eBay and craigslist. Etsy might be another good source too.
I seen them at the estate sales I go to.
I'll pick one up for you next time.
I'm pretty sure it's in my parents' garage.
I took a look at craigslist in the East Bay for those lamps and gosh darn it...they are gone. Sold. So sorry!
Katie, a nearly identical lamp just showed up on ebay. Here it is.
Hi, I just got a lead (on a PAIR of that exact same lamp). Be still, my heart! Anyway, I'm not entirely sure I want both, so if I don't get the other one, I'll let you know where to find it.
However, this proves that they're out there...and not something created by the set designers.
@Becky...Did you ever find a pair of these lamps? I'm very interested in hanging one in my front room, so please let me know if you have any leads on one. Thanks!
Does anyone know why the lamp shade looks all blue when the light is off, but rainbow colored when turned on?
I've got TWO very similar for sale in Michigan...
