For a moment there we thought Whirlpool was expanding their scope of products out to televisions when we took a quick look at their European Max Collection of
microwaves. Obviously aimed at the European market's demand for small space appliances with more fashionable finishes, we're not sure how we feel about the design itself. On one hand, we like the compact size and range of colours offered; 750 watts of Hungry Man (or rather, Hungry Chap) cooking power with a steamer function. At the same time, the design seems awkward...as if our Japanese rice cooker got it on with a late 1990's Emerson telly. But we don't even a microwave, so who are we to say?
Whirlpool Max Collection Microwave specs:
- Digital controls
- 13 litre capacity
- Auto steam function
- Jet Defrost Mode
- 750 watts/5 power settings
- Turntable diameter: 28cm

I have owned one of these designs for a couple of years now, they're very useful as they can fit easily into a corner and be accessible from more than one angle. Everybody who visits my apartment sees it and asks me what it is, very few seem to guess microwave.
Two things to say (despite not using microwaves a lot myself):
1. It makes a very good baked potato with crispy skin using the built in crisp function (and does oven fries in half the time an oven takes)
2. The defrost setting does a better job than any other microwave I have used for chicken breasts
I am using Microwaves more frequently now that I am working in hospital so much longer each day, they're very handy and it's nice to have one which made design and ergonomics a priority- there's little to no wasted space with this shape.
