Is white a color? Or is it the lack of color? Either way, Northwest interior designers often preach its virtues &mdash along with its cousins, taupe and gray &mdash for that particular light we have in this corner of the country. Neutrals dance with the shadows that come in through the windows, reflecting the sky as it changes during the day...
Many of these images also display how white shows off bright accent colors, textures and the subtle colors of wood. You can also see the many different shades of white that are out there.

I love white... but technically, white is ALL colors combined in the spectrum, versus BLACK which is the absence of color.
Oh holy crap that ad at the top of the page is annoying. And it doesn't go away. And your screen keeps moving. I really like the rest of the redesign, but...
I was just thinking the same thing about that ad. It's giving me motion sickness, and it won't stop. As for white, I love it. It's a color I don't see a lot of in "nature," which in my case is usually grimy Manhattan streets and subways, and dreary office buildings. Needless to say, against that backdrop, white immediately makes me feel calm, clean, and collected. Full disclosure, though -- most of my apt walls are gray, not white, although that's mainly because it looks so nice against my white ceilings and trim.
Does anyone know what paint color would be close to that pink chair in picture #6?
I love it, so clean looking. Though actually keeping it that way is quite the challenge!
I can definitely appreciate an all white decor but it's just not for me... I need colors (usually dark colors) and some neon in there too please! I have to admit the first image with the chandi and pop of color from the bookcase is pretty amazing though...

Oh and btw, I used 'Tutti-Frutti' by Behr, it appears similar to the color of the chair?

I love all white, especially in the bathroom and kitchen. My bathroom and kitchen are all white (silver accents/appliances in the kitchen), and it feels and looks so clean and bright, and when the place is clean, you can really, really tell. I love it.
thanks slipcoveryourlife - I shall check it out the Behr paint. Its such a deep pink its almost neon.
I simply adore painting certain rooms white - I think it makes other colours in your room be much more dramatic. I recently painted a spare room white, with the old wood floors white as well, and it got some hilarious comments from my Father and Husband...
My Father said.."It feels like I'm in that final sequence in 2001 space odyssey." (An all white room scene) And my husband calls the room the "heavenly room" as it reminds him of in movies when it's a "heaven" scene and it all goes white.
I LOVE all white rooms, but I personally think colour needs to be added in art accessories.
You can see the Space Odysey room on our blog if at all interested!

I admire the restraint of the person who can paint a room white, cover the furniture in white and walk away. I have no such restraint; a white wall drives me insane though I greatly admire them when they are designed as well as the ones above. Still, if left alone too long in one of these rooms, you would return to brightly colored walls because I just cannot help it.
Ever since I was a kid, I've always had to have my bedrooms, then later my apartments and now my condo painted in deep, saturated colors. This year, however, something snapped and I can't wait to paint my entire condo white! I am just plain tired of the colored walls!
Too much white drives me nuts. It looks so unfinished to me. A white room just seems to be sitting there...waiting....
Monochromatic color schemes are too busy in their own way. Sometimes they work for me if they play with patterns correctly, but I prefer color contrast. I love white when bright colors are used to make certain elements pop.
Pics 5, 8, and 9 beckon me. Not too fussy or pretentious.
A guess it's a debatable point as to whether white is actually a color.
Be that as it may, this post's title seems a bit odd and awkward. Why not just "White Rooms" ??
Though there are some nice elements shown in these photos, the spaces are all too self-involved and over-edited for my taste.
