A report came out today, ranking the Top 100 furniture stores in the US - and it's big business. According to the stats, sales were up 7.9% in 2010 over 2009 and we're talking in the billions of dollars here. Who is at the top of the heap when it comes to selling all those sofas (and beds and vases and...)?
According to Furniture Today, the highest ranked retailer, on the specialty stores' list, by sales of furniture, bedding and accessories is IKEA, followed by Williams Sonoma and Pier 1. The top conventional stores are Ashley, Rooms to Go and Berkshire Hathaway. The specialty stores outperformed the conventional shops with a 7.4% growth compared to 4.6% growth. When it comes to bedding specialists, the name says it all; Sleepy's is in the lead.
