If you saw my earlier post, you know I was in the market for a most unconventional desk: A round pedestal table. Well, during my search, I quickly realized that my shopping task would take me outside the square and hefty "home office" department and into more dainty spaces...

I've been checking out small-scale dining room tables, couch side tables and patio tables to find the perfect laptop perch for my office nook, and I see I'm not the only one.

Over at IkeaHacker, reader Jennifer needed a tiny but functional desk for a small guest room. She found exactly what she was looking for in an "As-Is" dining table find...

She says, "I saw the Norbo wall mounted table at Ikea and knew I could do something with it. I was on a very tight budget and decided to spend my money on other items. The next time I went to Ikea. I found the same desk (missing one screw) for 1/3 the price in the As-is section (my favorite). I painted it in my kooky way and then mounted it to the wall."

We love the ingenuity and the funky cool paint work! Next time you have a home office need, anything from a desk to a place to file papers, try to look outside the office aisles at your favorite store.
