Have you ever wondered what the inside of the Facebook offices looked like? Yeah, we haven't really either, but as it turns out they're not unlike your teenager's bedroom — with slightly less stinky socks.
The Facebook offices aren't lacking in any of the basics that makes up a fun, creative, or overly-youthful workspace. In fact, they look like the offices that every kid wants to grow up and work in. There's a wall of snacks (healthy or not) to choose from, bookcases that used to be full of favorites reads but now look like a graveyard of days gone by and an entire room devoted to Guitar Hero and other assorted musical instruments. Who cares if the sofa is from the thrift store? As long as you're having fun it doesn't matter!
Would you like to work in an office that resembles your high school bedroom? Mine did in fact have a sofa to crash on and a secret stash of snacks! Tell us about yours below!

I worked at a non-profit that provided snacks at a lot of the meetings. I thought I was being so sneaky eating from this one particular stash of treats over the span of a month or two. No one else knew about this stash! Lucky me! Until I realized the treats were over 3 years expired. EEEEEW.
I would gain so much weight working there.
Honestly, the snack thing gets old. As someone who had an office with snacks, you eventually wish they carried stuff that wasn't just pure sugar. They don't of course, because it costs 100% more and has no shelf life. It is one of those little things that seems SO COOL but costs them nothing in the long run. That room with the music games? The loss of use on that room costs them more than anything.
There was a great article from a Microsoft manager that was discussing this kind of thing, these trends with google and various startups, because Microsoft stole the show back in the 90's when it came to goodies like that. They still have a comfy enough work space, but as he pointed out so clearly all that stuff is just designed to get you to stay in the office longer. His response? "It was fun when I was in my early twenties, but now we all just want to actually go home." Call me cynical but that is how I view all that stuff now, it is just designed to get you to live at the office.
I work in a big tech company with beautiful offices and lots of perks, but my favorites are the jars of Hershey's miniatures and the free cartons of milk--the perfect afternoon snack!
