Want to walk away from a big appliance purchase feeling totally secure about your spending? Don't we all. But the truth is that sometimes, you're going to have struggles and regrets about what you bought and—more likely—where you bought it from. Luckily, we have groups like Consumer Reports doing important research on the best spots to buy from. So which appliance retailers offer the most customer satisfaction?
Consumer Reports National Research Center surveyed shoppers who bought one or more appliances in the past year, asking questions about satisfaction with shipping, installation, haul-away of old appliances and returns.
What they found was that the "stores" rated highest overall aren't stores at all. The top three appliance retailers for shoppers were Abt Electronics, Amazon and the QVC shopping channel.
And towards the bottom of the list? Sears and Best Buy, especially on the topic of returns.
We'll admit we often turn first to the local Best Buy for our tech purchases, including a MacBook Pro, Canon DSLR, our Wii & XBox consoles and two flat-screen TVs. Thousands (and thousands... gosh! We've got to cut our spending!) of dollars later, and we've never had a problem with the old' yellow tag. But none of those are really appliances per se.
