Wicker and rattan furniture can easily look like it belongs out on grandma's back porch. But with the right lines and styling, this seemingly outdated furniture can bring in good-looking natural and textural elements.

Rapidly-growing rattan includes hundreds of vine-like palms found mostly in Indonesia, and wicker is woven from rattan, water hyacinth, reeds, or other natural or synthetic materials.

In your home, wicker and rattan can add a vintage vibe that balances out more formal parts of a room — such as how the hanging chair contrasts with the white tufted sofa and antique mirror in the first image. I also love how it looks on chairs with dark metal legs (Image 5).
