I have a pair of leopard print flats that I absolutely adore. They are the perfect unexpected neutral to add to any outfit. I'm also currently coveting a great leopard print scarf (any recommendations)? However, I'm not quite sure I'm ready to hop on the leopard print bandwagon and ride it all the way into my living room. Are you?
If I were to go the leopard route, I'd probably take the same approach as my shoes...using the leopard as a decorative accessory like a pillow or a throw. And since I'm not ready to take the plunge and wear a leopard print dress, I'll also be avoiding any furniture fully upholstered in the print.
How do you feel about the trend and how it translates into your home? With animal prints everywhere these days, would you be daring and mix and match leopard with zebra?

Following any trend in your home is a great way to waste money.
Best to stick w/ classic styles and timeless designs that won't beg for replacement in a couple years.
I didn't know it was a trend. I've been having spots of it since I was young teen, decades ago.
Antique settee at the dining table has had brown/gold leopard print seat for about 20 years.
Still looks great to me.
I find it fascinating that people continue to think of leopard print as "new." It's not as if the designers only try to push this every 20 years; about every 2 years there is another effort to demonstrate that mixing leopard and flowers is a breath of fresh air. Rubbish. It's not new and it still looks awful. (May I add I am all in favor of mixing patterns when they work and I think leopard prints are fabulous -- dahlings --under the right circumstances.) My own theory is that about 50 years ago a bunch of designers bought a warehouse full of leopard print on spec, and have been trying to unload it ever since.
I luvs some animal print! No leopard print cat suits for me, but a pillow, a set of sheets, a rug (NOT all in the same room)? Absolutely. Should either go well or be a good candidate for rotating out my zebra print. :o)
Short answer: No.
And Deb93...thank you for your observation - I have been saying the same thing for years!! I am so tired of this fake "trend" they trumpet maybe even every season, let alone every 2 years... It's not a trend, it's a freakin' cliché.
Some of us also object to its subtext of domination - over "exotic" African animals plundered for pelts, and over women, who are constantly encouraged to dress up like "exotic" animals/trophies. Have you ever seen a man in a leopard coat?
Ick.
Let's leave the leopard print in the jungle where it belongs!
No. I cannot stand leopard prints, or zebra prints, or tiger prints, or any other such thing. Putting aside the fact that I think using a skinned animal as decor is gross, I think they are just tacky. Regardless of the context, they just remind me of Peggy Bundy in the animal print spandex pants, high heels, brightly colored top featuring cleavage, fake red hair and blue eyeshadow, and everything else that went along with her TV personality.
So, no.
Leopard print isn't a trend, how it's used though can be trendy. In small doses, accessories and such, it's classic.
A cream on cream leopard print or grey on grey I can support if used sparingly to add a bit of visual texture to a room. This would be of course if only paired with solids in a sea of mixed neutrals.
Other than that I'm with Deb93.
I think if you have something leopard (yes faux) keep it and bring out either in your decor or clothing every two years that is the cycle time of it being in. I have a faux throw I've had for years had it out last winter and when I get tired of looking at it I put in back in the my pillow/throw storage trunk. My place is modern, cottage preppy and it adds a nice dash of glamour.
I love a little leopard -- belt, shoes, scarf, jacket. I think a leopard (or giraffe, or zebra) print pillow in the right room is awesome.
Tarzan doesn't decorate my home. Not then, not now, not ever. I agree with hyzen, no matter how many times designers try to tell me its glam, it always reads like a Bundy to me.
Leopard print is as ugly today as it was in the 1990s. It distracts. It overwhelms. It reads loose and unedited. It cheapens and makes tacky otherwise beautiful rooms and clothes. It's impossible to use ironically - the set designers on The Sopranos didn't even attempt it - and immediately adds a garishisness to anything it adorns.
I married my wife because she has no animal-print clothing.
I love leopard print. I've had a leopard print stool and some zebra throw pillows that have both effortlessly fit into several living rooms I've moved in and out of over the years. I'm actually kind of bummed leopard print is becoming such a trend, it used to be something quirky and fun and totally "me."
I think it's fun and glam mixed with white leather and pops of (pick one) red or orange or turquoise or purple. It's fabulous if you have the panache to pull it off ;)
I've always loved leopard. I know it happens to be a trend right now, but it really is one of those classic things that never goes out of style. It CAN look tacky & cheap in the wrong fabric & if the pattern itself isn't quite right.

Animal prints are so tacky... I would say “so snooki”...
I've always thought animals prints were tacky. And all this "look what's hip and new for fall!" hype is just a ploy to get you to buy new things you don't need every season. No, thanks.
Ugh. Whenever I hear "leopard print," I think of large women's large underpants.
Absolutely not. I do not use animal prints in my decorating because it does not suit my taste, but I have seen them used tastefully a few (very few) times.
I have never owned an animal-print item of clothing, and will admit that I pretty quickly had regrets about buying the small, zebra-print rug from West Elm several years ago (that they still sell.) I think my husband still likes it though...
Too jerseylicious for me LOL.
Please, please, please make ALL the animal prints (fashion, decor, and otherwise) go away!
