According to the New York Times, Chicago interior designer Nate Berkus will be the latest regular Oprah guest to "spin-off" and get his own show. Announced in December and expected to begin airing in Fall 2010, "The Nate Berkus Show" will be produced by Harpo, Oprah's production company.
The new design show is anticipated to be a hit based on the ratings leap that occurs when Berkus appears on Oprah's show. According to a quote by John Weiser (president of distribution for Sony Pictures Television) in the NYT article, "the total audience rating increased by an average of 13 percent when Mr. Berkus joined Ms. Winfrey, and by 20 percent in the core constituency for Ms. Winfrey, women viewers 25 to 54 years old."
No word on whether it will be shot in Chicago or what the overall structure of the show will be, although from what we read, it definitely will have a design focus. We're wondering if the Apartment Therapy readership plans on tuning in to the new show - are you expecting it to be an addition to your regular design "fixes"? Do you think it will get a season pass on your TIVO? Let us know if you plan to tune in to Nate in 2010 in the comments below...
