I was inspired by your "Purple Rooms I Don't Hate" article. We've just redone our bathrooms in our small Las Vegas condo. Our master bathroom, which is shared by two men, is purple [note: photo colors are off]. I think we managed to make it look pretty masculine. It's got a Jimi Hendrix theme.
The second bathroom is a slate blue and grey. Previously they were both bland white rooms with standard cabinets. We replaced the built ins with two vanities in the master and painted the ones in the other bathroom and added hardware.
Thanks for sharing, Will!

I don't think the "Keep Calm" poster would impress Jimi too much. I'd also get some other color towel than orange. The chess piece accessories aren't bad though.
Oops, sorry, just realized the dreaded poster isn't in the Jimi bathroom. I still hate it, but at least it isn't wrecking the Jimi shrine.
I like the chess pieces - where are they from?
Kinda pointless to comment about a color when the "photo colors are off."
The chess pieces look desperately masculine.
Sydney- I thought the same thing about that poster. Why does EVERY house tour feature it? What draws you to this "novelty t-shirt for your wall", readers? I like the orange towel though- contrast is nice.
I don't know if I would ever do a celebrity themed room myself, but I thought the Hendrix bathroom was pretty sweet. Nice job.
I don't quite care for the aforementioned poster either, but I do like the wall colors.
ditto the "keep calm" cliche comments.
But I do love the colors and the rest of this.
I like the chess pieces and orange towels. I love the way purple and orange go together and I imagine they look great with the true color of the bathroom. I understand it's hard to capture color, especially in a windowless room! I'm also liking your dark cabinets with light counters/sinks. I've been thinking of painting mine a similar color. Great rooms, thanks!
its awesome dude.
Love the Jimi painting, the moody colors, and the chess pieces. Feel bad about the Keep Calm poster. You got a knock-off! I don't like the "real" one either but yours uses a different (worse) typeface and isn't styled as well.
This purple bathroom is fabulous! Being a real estate agent, I see way too many colorless bathrooms and many bathrooms where the owner overdoes the color thing once they let loose. I wish the owners of this one would come to my neighborhood and help my clients to add some color and pizazz to theirs.
I find the location of the "keep calm/carry on" poster rather funny...maybe someone has potty anxiety.
I'm with KatSD. I think the placement of the keep calm poster is hilarious. I'm inclined to think that this might be a sort of commentary on the poster itself. Perhaps Will's feelings about the ubiquitous "keep calm" poster are more in line with the people who've commented here than they realized. . . . .
I like both of your bathrooms! And I too have a "Keep calm and carry on" poster, and I love it, and it's framed in my living room, and I don't (and I don't think you should either) give a you-know-what whether or not it's in everyone else's house tour if you like it. Thumbs to the nose to all of you who haven't had anything constructive to say. The purple really works and doesn't seem girly at all, and the grey seems very serene. Bully for you!

Every time someone complains about this poster, I think to myself, Hey, indoor plumbing is popular, too. Mebbe we need to stop being so "cliche" and replace toilets with buckets!
Okay, so I think it to myself with a touch of sarcasm. Point is, the poster makes people happy. Why not own it?
I laugh every time someone complains about the Keep Calm poster. So what, people???? It's a friggin' poster! Who cares if it's ubiquitous? It's. A. Poster. People like the sentiment; the like the font; they like the color; they like the crown. Whatever! When people purchase posters, I kinda doubt they're wondering how many more are hanging in homes throughout the world. Because WHO CARES? People decorate for themselves, not because they're trying to impress the readers of a design blog. "Gee, sorry that you've seen my poster one too many times and now you're bored." C'mon, people, decorate for yourselves and stop worrying about whether or not you (or anyone else) is on top of the trends.
I think the jimi bathroom color/idea is cool. I just have a hard time with bathrooms that have no free counter space. It might be fine for the people who live there, but when you are guest in someone's home, and you go the bathroom to freshen up. Where are you supposed to put your purse down? On the floor?
Poster Idea: 'Freak out and throw a fit.'
I have the same exact print hanging over the toilet in my master bath :)
