Windowless Foyer: The Darker the Better?

Good Questions

Q: I have been debating this for a while. I have a windowless foyer with only one light that is very blah. The doors opening to the foyer are low quality so I want them to disappear. I have painted the doors and walls White Dove but I would really love to go quite dark. It seems like it's a bit dim now, why not just embrace it?

A couple friends thought it was very impractical and depressing to go very dark.  I took the middleroad and painted one section light grey but it's so bland to me. Can this dark, featureless foyer afford to go dark? Maybe colorblock dark? And if so does the ceiling get darkened as well?
I have been playing with Photoshop to try out different things but I don't know if it is accurate. I've included the original, a colorblock version, and a whole wall to ceiling darkness version. What do you think?
