Windows Phone Augmented Reality App the Future of Color Matching

Android and iOS users have long been able to tap the aid of color/paint matching apps like ColorSnap and Color Capture, allowing users match paint colors using photos. But we think the future of color matching isn't photos, but with augmented reality, as displayed using this Windows Phone app...

Augmented Colors, a 99 cent app for Windows Phone, lets users simply point at any object and receive color-matching RGB and hexadecimal in real-time. No need to take a photo, then wait to load the image to match. As shown in the video we recorded below pointing our phone at our bedroom mural the feedback is instantaneous:

At this moment, Augmented Colors is primarily aimed at graphic designers for screen color-matching, as both color values from the app will need to be converted to 4-color values for real world paint equivalents. But it's likely it won't be too long before interior paint manufacturers update their own apps to utilize this same type of technology. In the meantime, it's been fun to point our HTC Titan at our cats, paintings, fruit, and even our betta fish to see what color values they produce.
