What the what? There it was a dark walnut rack on the wall with several rolled up socks in each section -- like a small sock cubbie. It totally worked and hanging it on the wall it added a touch of whimsy and the unexpected. In her infant son's room, she stored cloth diapers inside of the rack and had it hanging next to his changing table.
Of course, we had to look up some racks and see which ones would work in a child's room for our purposes.

Does anyone else do that?

Shaw's Original Fir...
I use an IKEA cd cabinet (i.e. maybe twelve big sized cubbies) in my daughter's room for dress up shoes, pajamas, her camera, rainboots, etc. It's a good catch-all for funny items in a small room.
My mom has used a wine rack to store rolled-up hand towels and magazines in the guest bathroom - it worked great!
So clever, always looking for more storage ideas, especially for all of those little kid socks that seem to disappear.
