At the end of a long day, nothing's nicer than crawling under the covers — especially if they're nice and fluffy. Down comforters and layered blankets might not be to everyone's tastes, but they can be a welcome escape when it's cold outside.
In case you're thinking of building your own layered winter bed, here are 10 inspiring rooms to get you started.
Good sources for a similar look include Les Indiennes (for high-end, hand-printed Indian bedding), Macy's and The Company Store (for basic down comforters that are frequently on sale), Garnet Hill (for traditional down-filled bedding), West Elm (for affordable modern comforters), and PillowsAndThrows.com (for layered accent bedding).

Bacon!
Here's what I would like to know: in Europe (I'm thinking of past trips to Switzerland, Germany, and Iceland) they have these big, heavy, fluffy duvets on the beds, that they use without sheets. They're like giant pillows and the fact that they're so heavy, I think, makes for amazingly restful sleep. Does any place in the US sell them? I found one Canadian company (and they're very expensive), but nothing in the US so far.
Anyone?
#5 is the proper way to treat a good down duvet instead of using it as a bedspread.
Knew that was Bacon, the AT Rock Star!
@MollydeA I don't know what exactly you're talking about but I love to sleep under my feather bed for because of the weight of it!
I have a feather bed on my mattress and a down comforter, I sleep between the two and it is toasty and comfortable.
interesting how all but one of these beds is basically made up with a white duvet and lovely, interesting pillows. simple but cozy!
Is #3 really supposed to function as a bed? It looks uncomfortable enough as a loveseat...
I have to agree with talby - looks extremely uncomfortably. There is a lot of useless pillows on some of these beds as well. The second and last one seem more my style.
Nothing like a sleeping kitty to make a bed warm and cozy!
Bacon is sitting on my bed =) Nice to see it posted again.
While I would love to curl up into any of these beds, I want to curl up into the beds with the French Bulldog and/or that ginger cat.
