Even a weather-spoiled LA gent like myself can appreciate the joys of a wintertime fireplace. The pleasant glow of embers and dancing flames, the sound of crackling wood, the smell of aromatic wood wafting through the house. Too bad we're an apartment renter and the closest we'll get to enjoying a fireplace is Ted Martens' 8-bit version...but it ain't a half bad stand-in.
Fireplace Beta V.0.5.5 is a giant pixelated recreation of a hearth warming fireplace. Start up the free Mac OS X or Windows app and you're presented with a few commands to start up your fire:
And the fun doesn't stop there. Type in commands like "marshmallow", "smore", "hotdogs", and "fireworks", and enjoy further virtual recreated moments by the fireplace. The log even burns away in about 30 minutes, or you can extinguish it with a tap of the Esc key.
