Flannel/fleece/fur/fuzzy Wrap your room in the textiles that you'd want to wrap yourself in. Bring in throw blankets, curtains and pillows upholstered in rich, sumptuous materials. Don't be afraid to place them in odd places like laying across a dresser or pillows piled high on a bench.
Warm glow Small lamps with low-watt bulbs and candle arrangements are a must for creating a warm glow in your bedroom that will make the room feel so cozy. Place three or four areas of low-watt light around the room; it'll create a perimeter of warm light around the whole space.
Fuzzy for the feet Flokati and shag rugs are a fun element to play with in your space (and are great to add in the winter even if you already have a rug or carpet) but you can even step it up a notch and try layering a bunch of thin rugs for a comfy and bohemian effect.
Canopy for the bed If you've got the means to create a canopy (if your bed doesn't have a frame, consider suspending some fabric from a point on the ceiling above the bed) you'll go a long way to creating a cozy space by making a little central nest of comfort out of your bed.
Deep, comfy chair Even if you won't use it that much, if you have the space, consider adding a comfy, upholstered chair. It'll add to the cozy effect.
Dark/jewel/earth tones Any colors can be cozy and you should always choose the colors that work for your tastes, but if you're looking to really step things up, consider going for a winter color palette that incorporates darker, earthy, jewel tones.
Over-sized knits If you're looking for just one thing to add an instant level of cozy? Go for an over-sized knit pattern in a blanket or pillow. We're loving Not Knot Pillows and Le Souk's Hand Knitted Rug/Blanket and Hand Knitted Cushion.
How are you making your bedroom space extra cozy this year? Adding anything to your mix or leaving your room how it is?

I love that blanket in the first pic!
In our house in WI, the flannel sheets and duvet covers and the down quilts come out around the end of October, and we also pile fuzzy throws around the house. The bed is so warm and cozy this time of year, it is almost impossible to get out of bed in the morning.
Generally nice ideas, but are you really suggesting that I spend money buying a chair that I am not going to use? I find that odd.
Love the cable-knit bedspread. So classy and rustic... And the bed nook with the curtains is so quaint!!

I put a big soft chair in the corner of my small bedroom ( 10 x 11) , and now it's one of my favorite places to curl up with a book or laptop-- and I didn't use it much at first. Now a bedroom without a reading chair --I'd rather get rid of a dresser than lose the chair.
I love those big chunky knits! Sadly, I cannot own one because my cat would destroy it.
I couldn't have said it better @kassgood!
I love the last one!
This post inspired me to purchase some new bedding! We have been renovating, and the master is the last one to get dressed up. Now, I just need a cool headboard and some art!
I love the blanket in the first picture. It could work as a bed spread as well, as that's what I thought it was. Just beautiful! I want one.
It would be nice if Apartment Therapy would tell us where we can buy the items in the pictures. I want that bedspread in the first picture. It's amazing!
@bma83 it's in the article under 'Over-sized Knits'
I recently got a new cherry-coloured nightstand and am trying to decide on what to put in the corner between it and the dresser - I was going to get a bookcase or wardrobe of some sort to put sweaters in, but I might have to get a comfy reading chair...
Oh, and I'd love to have a real flokati rug. I have a picture of my yiayia (grandmother) sitting on one back in the 50s/60s...
More photos would be nice :-)
yum, want that that blanket. and the euro to dollar exchange rate is pretty good right now, too...
