Industrial chic is quite on trend these days, as a quick look at the shelves of home decor retailers will show you. If you love this look but don't want the same Pottery Barn ceiling lamp that everyone else has, you can easily DIY your own. I love this ceiling fixture made from an old wire basket.

Of course, the best part of DIYing is that you can usually tailor your project however you like. Kristine from The Painted Hive used an old zinc basket to achieve an industrial vibe that fits nicely in the nursery but could transition easily all the way to a teenager's bedroom.

Kristine gives you all the details on how to convert an existing light fixture to a wire "shade," and despite having to cut an "hour-hole" ("that’s just when it takes you an hour to cut a hole you thought would take five minutes") in the base, the whole process seems pretty simple.
