Started in 2004, Wonk specializes in all the furniture you need for a home, except for the bed and the sofa. They have an ever widening variety of tables, chairs, dressers and other storage pieces, that are boxy, modern and stripped down. Think of these pieces as building blocks and sort of a cross between Blu Dot and Ikea (with a high quality).
Our favorites are the Carroll lacquered shelves ($325), The Boris Dining Table ($975), and the Home Office setup, which reminds us of a grown up David Netto collection.

I recently revisited their DUMBO store. They really do beautiful beautiful work. Comparably, and fairly, priced to other high-end independent designer work, but unfortunately just out of reach for me for now.
I'm in love with the Charlotte coffee table. Any idea if they have a west coast distributor?
Ha! I was just about to say that, Enrique. Well, not the west coast part. And I'm confident that I'm not going to get a look at it here in Detroit.
I like the designs, but I'm not seeing the Ikea side of things. The dining chairs are ~$500. You can get a functional chair for 1/10 that at Ikea, or the Blu Dot chair chair for 1/4 that. How about a "cheap and cheerful" theme month?
I agree that it doesn't have much to do with Ikea. I don't know where that came from.

I really love this company and the work that they do. I visited the Dumbo store a few years ago and found that they were helpful and really friendly.
I've walked by this store so many times, and just assumed that their furniture, which looks very high end would just not be affordable at all. Pleasantly surprised to see on the website that a cabinet is $375. Not cheap, but much better quality and design than something you'd see at crate + barrel.

Huh? Where in the original post did anyone say "inexpensive"? I think the pieces are very reasonably priced when compared to similar quality pieces I've seen here in LA. That lust-worthy Charlotte coffee table is priced at $475, which I think is a great price. (Of course since I live in LA, I'd get hit with freight charges if I did purchase that table.) At any rate, I'm having samples sent to see if this actually could be the coffee table of my dreams.
In the future, I won't be so glib (maybe). Actually the Ikea reference was in response to the angular, spartan, semi-Scandinavian design style I detected, nothing more.
As for pricing, they are priced high enough to know you're getting a quality piece and not too high to give you sticker shock.
As for availability, I forgot to mention that they ship all over the USA!
