If you are anything like myself, you have spent a fair amount of your youth (and beyond) imagining what it would be like to stop in for tea at Bag's End or catch a quick supper and a pint at The Prancing Pony. Alas, we are stuck in our own drab world where elves are relegated to Christmastime, houses are full of right angles and doors are almost never round. The Hobbit holes so lovingly described in the books of J.R.R. Tolkien are a wonderful mix of coziness and whimsy. Believe it or not, you can now own one, and your kids will forever be in your debt.

Where do I begin? The round doors, the curves, the shaped windows, the cedar, the colors--everything about these little houses makes me smile. They are the creation of Wooden Wonders, a company based in Unity, Maine. The attention to detail and level of craftsmanship is admirable, as is the attempt to build them into an actual or created hillside, just like a proper Hobbit hole should be.

Playhouses are just one way these structures can be utilized. Each design can customized in a myriad of ways to suit any purpose you might want, from chicken coop to sauna. The only problem I see is that my real house will look so...square in comparison.

White Enamel Four-P...
A bit disappointed that the inside didn't match the outside. LOVE the outside and would have my own home designed that way.
The insides would be adorable decorated with some vintagey old furniture (as the child gets to the "wants to play house" or "have a clubhouse" ages)
These are adorable. They'd make cute garden sheds too!
Screw the kids. I'm getting one for myself. Hobbit office..hmm...
Second that @MNTNGR! Can these people do like a full-scale house? I'm short, it'll work.
That IS really neat. And it looks like you can have one for an office for $6k (the basic kid one is about $3k). Which falls in line with a lot of fancy playhouses, really. I want a whole house like this!
In Carmel-by-the-Sea, California there are full-size houses that look like Hobbit holes. They are called the fairy tale houses, and were built in the 20's. There are also some even larger ones in Los Angeles, I think also called fairy tale houses. They're pretty neat. I'd love to have one of these small ones for an office/library.
I live in Maine and saw one of the hobbit holes on display at local festival. They are so fricken cute!! I might've pushed a few kids out of the way to get close to it...
They would make a great backyard playhouse, if only I had children. I love the idea of a chicken coop, too!
mntngr, seriously. I want one for myself as a little art studio/ reading nook.
Love them. So sweet.
My granddaughter would love this :)
