It's said that a picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes, good old fashioned text does the best job. Quotes from funny, clever people like Julia Child, Oscar Wilde and Robert Burns will give you a chuckle. Hang them up wherever you need a pick-me-up or a little kick in the behind.
Alternatively, write your own! Then, enlarge it, print it and frame it. Something your family always said or lines from a favorite book are great sources.
This collection of wall decor is printed in a variety of ways, but I have to highlight the most eco-friendly seller of the bunch. Canton Box Company (Julia Child quote) used 100% cotton canvas and water-based acrylic paint.

What I really like about these quotes as decor or art is that they are not cutesy. In content or execution. Thank you.
Agreed. Really happy these aren't the usual Tumblr fodder quotes
I have art with positive quotes all over my bathroom. It's the most positive place in my home. ;)
Although I'm a huge fan of great typography, and I really like all of the examples above from a design standpoint, I just can't get behind the concept of displaying text as an art piece in my home. To me, it would be like having someone follow me from room to room, talking all the time, but saying the same thing over and over. I think it's just how my brain works.
I have #3 in my kitchen but in blue and red. It makes me happy to look at every day :)
I am fortunate that both my boyfriend and I despise this type of art. It's probably the only thing we agree on when it comes to decorating. I just don't get it. I feel like it's a poor attempt to make someone appear intellectual, especially when it's some random song lyric or motivational line of horse manure. Especially with things like "be yourself". Do you really need a reminder?
I'm attracted to this text art but it just seems like such a huge fad. I imagine in a year or two we will all cringing and saying, "Remember when that was a thing?" like those terrible high hairspray bangs from the early 90s.
@Katykate -- I know exactly what you mean! Every time I would enter the space, I would read the writing... (or maybe that's the point?)
I liked something I saw the other day... It had the crown from "keep calm and carry on", but underneath it said "don't tell me to settle down". Haha
Count me in the camp who LOVES text-based art - and I don't care if it's a fad, I've been adding it to my home for more than a decade because it really speaks to me (see what I did there?). The piece in the inspiration room above looks like one of artist Christopher Wool's works, which some of you might also dig: http://www.taschen.com/pages/en/catalogue/art/all/01055/facts.christopher_wool.htm
I would find the repetition tiresome. I don't want my decor to interrupt the conversation. Given how culture is saturated with stimuli from TV, iPhones, and other media, this trend seems counterproductive. I would find the repetition tiresome. I used to have two framed art prints from Venice that happened to state "Peggy Guggenheim Collection" under the images, as art prints are wont to do, and it was rankling to constantly have to tune out "Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Peggy Guggenheim Collection." I would find the repetition tiresome. If you love an idea or a look or a quote, why would you dishonor it by turning it into a booby-trap that trains you to disregard it? I would find the repetition tiresome. The home becomes a lesson in becoming immune to what you value most. I would find the repetition tiresome. I would find the repetition tiresome.
I love this type of art but that's b/c I really love writing. I especially appreciate it if the quote is meaningful to your life vs the manufactured ones you can buy. I want to do one with an Edgar Allan Poe quote I adore and we also have one that reads Thank Your Lucky Stars, which for us, holds a personal meaning.
The "Live, Laugh, Love" ones, well...that's another story.
