We came across these shelves by Spanish company RS and loved the offbeat thinking behind their designs. One shelf is tilted slightly to the side, another is covered in cushioned fabric to make it kid-friendly, and a third uses built-in extensions to create storage space on all four sides.

In addition to shelving, RS makes seating, lighting, outdoor furniture, and—definitely worth a look—a modern metal foosball table (shown in detail here on NotCot). The company has a good sense of humor, which comes through in their work.
