I'd like to think that I'd enjoy a 340-hour and 40-minute shower, but I probably wouldn't. Thank goodness, then, for Kevin "Catfish" McCarthy, Longest-Shower World Record holder and one of the subjects of Maria Forde's new set of hand-colored prints...

"Exactly 7 Seconds" is a fun exhibit at the always-fascinating Curiosity Shoppe on Valencia, featuring, in their words, Maria Forde's "incredibly rendered and painstakingly printed portraits of real folks who have pushed themselves to the limits of endurance and/or sanity." Seriously! Though I believe showering & kissing are two of the very best ways to spend one's time, showering for days and kissing thousands of people (like, in a row, like James Whale did) might drive one mad. The thing I especially enjoy about these works is that they remind me that more, especially lots more, of something is not necessarily what I'm after. I might think that all I want to ever do is shower, but Kevin "Catfish" McCarthy reminds me that I really pretty satisfied with 10 or so minutes. Thanks, Kevin, and James, and especially Maria!

The collagraphs/etchings and letterpress prints are available at the Curiosity Shoppe or through their online store.
